What's wrong with a fat neck?

Well depending on your style, its just harder to shred than on... say an Ibanez prestige series

you really get used to the LP neck, the only time i feel a difference in necks, is when i play a fast all around riff, but its still pretty easy on an LP

Eh, I'm not much of a fan of fat necks either, same with 7 string guitars...I hate the fat necks. But overrated guitars? Hmm..probably the Gibson SG, even though they are nice guitars.

A fat neck is like a fat weiner, it feels good in your hands and is easy to play with.

I love my LP, got a nice crunch to it. Nice and thick.

Ibazen are over rated. Played a few, didn't really care for it. I like thick sounding guitars.

a smaller neck just means you cant play as well on a bigger neck, when you go big to samll, you get soo much more speed...

Tell Gary Moore you can't play fast on a Les Paul.

OK, I see the point you're making but it's not always true. I love the sound of a good Gibson being overdriven as I also love that thick warm tone but sadly a Les Paul is vastly overpriced and I don't like single cut guitars anyway. Instead I bought an Ibanez with a mahogany body and installed Bare Knuckle 'Cold Sweat' pups as they're based on Gibson Dirty Fingers units. My guitar now sounds lovely with a thick and rich distortion but also with a fast Wizard II neck and it still cost less that most Les Pauls to complete.

I can play faster on my thicker Schecter neck than on my thinner BC Rich neck..... the thicker neck simply feels more comfortable to me!

it's.... *sigh* .....once AGAIN! a matter of personal preferences, so you can't just say that thinner necks are faster 'cause that aren't always the case! Some things works for some people and other things works for the rest of the people!

ontopic:
I guess that many of the larger well known companies have a tendency to be overrated. I, personally, think Fender and Gibsons are some of the most overrated instruments out there, and also some of the most overpriced instruments! I don't have any experience with PRS, but if you take a look at what you buy when you buy a PRS I'd say they are overpriced too - BUT I don't quite think they're overrated!
Jackson makes some fine guitars, but it seems that many think that it's THE METAL GUITAR, and therefore I find it highly overrated!

.....atleast that's my opinion (or personal preference)!

Hey hey hey, no porn here!

Ibanez. Too thin and weak feeling. The lack of sustain and overall wimpiness just isn't satisfying to me. I'll stick to my schecters.

The Ibanez RG, and Gibson SG.

I hate those guitars, the only thing I liked about them was the fret access. The neck on the Ibanez was absolutely terrible, and overly thin, and the SG was just unbalanced and awkward. Also didn't have that "chugga chugga" sound I'm accustomed to.

Thanks. If the SG is overrated, that's perfectly fine with me.

Ibanez.

They are SOOO overrated.

Srysly dood, gtfo with ur SG pic spam. We all know you're excited but make your own thread or something.

On topic: I also don't see what the big deal is with expensive Gibsons, especially customs.

You don't need to. By now i bet most people active on the bloody forum have seen your SG pics.
That was my intention. Now nobody has to ask for pictures -- they've already been posted.

I like how a guitar that I've never known by any means as "overrated" is being shat on in here. Meanwhile, almost every response to a "what guitar thread" is flooded by "GET AN IBANEZ/SCHECTER/DEAN/ESP THIS". I find that overrated.

BC Rich.

Not because of quality, I don't care how they sound and neither do the people who play them. Most (read that twice so you realize you may be the exception to this rule and if that's the case shut-up and move on) of the people who own a BC Rich have it just because it's so m3t4l!!

I'm also not a Fender/Gibson fan. But I'm a huge Schecter bitch, whenever in life I get the 2 Schecters I want, my collection is basically done lol.

... Wait I lied, the only BC Rich I want is Pat O'Brien's 7 string V... yeah then I'm done.

Ok I'd like to point out that you're going to play the fastest on the neck that's the most "correct" for your hands and touch, like I for example can play much more comfortably on a Gibson LP with the 60's neck than I can on an Ibby with the Wizard II. Neck size is just about using the right neck for you, just because a neck is thinner DOES NOT mean it will play faster.

But I think an overrated guitar would be... Hmmm... Well, a double neck. Sure, they're cool, but they're heavy, but idk, I don't think one guitar can be over rated, I think if you like it then it's the best for you. You're going to play your best on the guitar that is the most comfortable for you to play, period.
#26
As the antithesis to the thread starter's opinion, I think guitars with thin "shred" necks are extremely uncomfortable.

If that wasn't gay I don't know what is. I mean comparing...

Anyway, the Les Paul is not over rated. if you can shred, you can shred on any guitar.

...? Because people think they're "metal" means their overrated? Laugh. Out. Loud. Again.

That's certainly not why I want one, I just love mocking birds. And btw, schecter is for sure, way more overrated than BC by far. Every single metal poser teen wants one, mostly because of AX7.

If I had a half of a penny every time I heard "best and the harlot" I could pay micheal jackson to get his gender changed back so he could dick slap bill gates in the face.

That's right sir, only your opinion matters. Avenged Sevenfold sucks, I like Schecter since they work for me. BC Rich is over rated because a lot of the hXc kids run into Guitar Center and grab the Son of Beast off the rack and nearly orgasm on it.

Boohoo someone disagrees with you, want a tissue?

*EDIT*

Let me further make you look stupid by saying over rated is something that is perceived by someone as being greater than it really is. BC Rich is just a body for all the 15 year old Slipknot fans who grab the first br00tal thing in site.

Also you clearly missed my disclaimer. I said MOST that could mean 99% and you are that lucky 1 person who falls outside of that 99% and likes BC Rich for ____ reason, I DON'T CARE. I said I don't like them because they are overrated.

Now go chew on a pwn'd sandwich.

So, you don't like something based on what other people think?

Wow. You're the one crying because I bursted your little bubble.

Pot calling the kettle black. You're the same way with shecter, that's why I don't like them. That's if I use your logic, which is like what? Fanboyosity?

Correct. You obviously have a reading (and spelling) disorder. So here I'll spell it out.

1) No I don't like BC Rich guitars (short of the 7 string V Pat O'Brien uses). The question for the entire thread was "What guitars do you think are overrated?" I think BC Rich are. Kids like them due to look not sound, not quality. They grab that guitar long before many other higher quality guitars.

2) I never defended Schecter against you. Because I don't really care what you think, your opinion means less to me than anything you could even imagine. I like Schecter and because of such feel no need to defend them against you, because you are a nobody.

3) It's ok if you doubt that your BC Rich guitars are so great, which is leading to your extremely mislead anger about my disliking them.

4) It's spelled "Behind," if you're going to attempt to insult me don't make yourself look like such a stupid tool while doing it.
