the key is basically the scale youre using

technically its the "sound" that the chords provides

all natural- c major, a minor
1 #- g major, e minor
2 #- d major, b minor
3 #- a major, f# minor
4 #- e major, c# minor
5 #- b major, g# minor
6 #- f# major, d# minor
7 #- c# major, a# minor

order of sharps on music staff. F C G D A E B. . . each time you augment a note it stereotypically becomes the seventh of whatever key you progress to. . . (meaning the last note in the key signature that you augmented is actually a half step below the major scale root note for that key. . . )

1 b- F major, d minor
2 b- Bb major, g minor
3 b- eb major, c minor
4 b- ab major, f minor
5 b- db major, bb minor
6 b- gb major, eb minor
7 b- cb major, ab minor

rule for flats(b) whenever you flat a note on the staff, the not that you flattened preceding it is actually the root note for that keys major scale. . . Order of Flats, B E A D G C F. . . it's a mirror image of the sharps. . . isn't that neat?

Metal, should kick you in the nuts, after you catch it messing around with your girlfriend.
