so i am a bass player and i jam with my drummer a lot maybe occasionally we will have a guitar player or a keyboard. we don't really play songs, just make stuff up and jam for long periods of time. i was thinking maybe we wanted to record some of this so we can see what we can improve on, etc. i was looking in a bassplayer magazine and they had a feature on handheld digital recorders and i was interested. i read it and the ones that are in my price range are:

Tascam DR-1 http://www.guitarcenter.com/TASCAM-DR-1-Portable-Digital-Recorder-104801394-i1386426.gc

Yamaha Pocketrak 2G http://www.guitarcenter.com/Yamaha-POCKETRAK-2G-Pocket-Recorder-104907068-i1389901.gc

Zoom H2 http://www.amazon.com/Zoom-H2-Portable-Stereo-Recorder/dp/B000VBH2IG

now what i want to know is, do we just put this in the middle of the room, press record, and then jam, and then when we are done it was all recorded in good quality?

have any of you guys had success with these? are they a good investment? which of those 3 would you recommend?

thanks

do you plug in each instrument into the recorder?

or do you just put it in the middle of the room and press record?

The Zoom H2 is amazing. You just set it up and press record and play and it captures everything and its all pretty good quality, too.
