I was just at Guitar Center and turned on this Fender Cyber Twin amp. Some jackass must have cranked it all the way and it crecendoed into this loud as f*ck feedback that could be heard throughout the whole place. It took me about 5 seconds just to turn it down...

Yeah, you should always check the volume before turning on an amp. I don't see why you'd just assume it was at a decent level...

I once tried a strat(and a tele later) at a shop and right before I was about to turn the amp on, the store manager jumped on the volume-knob and turned it down, because it was at 10... and it was a fairly big amp too... I can only imagine what would have happened...

Punctuation. I wanted to play on the deafness thing, but the gaps can't be long enough.

It seems to work on some.

You'll eventually come to accept that your hearing gets fucked. Mine has from gigs and such.
I play by my own rules. And I have one rule; There are no rules... but if there are, they're there to be broken. Even this one.

Confused? Good.

Fair enough.. at least I didn't go deaf right on the spot. Afterall people at gigs can experience the same thing...

My ears did ring for a little while but it's all good, for now.

True, and it didn't really go directly in my ears, as earbuds do and such. I'd rather not worry about it though I'm fine.

I'm sorry but that's one of the stupidest things I've heard on these forums.

I took a hearing test two days ago and the audiologist told me some stuff:

You don't loose your hearing from one loud noise from an amplified guitar.

You need a really percussive sound to damage your hearing, like a gunshot.

In fact a single gunshot can permanently damage your hearing if you don't wear protection.

So, please stop worrying about it, there is no possible way you could have damaged your ears.
