so im looking for a set of humbuckers for a custom build im doing, anyways. it's a mahogany body for those of you who wanted to know. i play mainly melodic metal. stuff like killswitch engage, soilwork, but will be into a lot of hardcore and other metal like hatebreed, slipknot etc. (also no genre or band bashing please, i will call it what i want,)so i was thinking of an emg 81(normal or tw(coil tap)) and a 60 (or the a model). but them my friend suggest i go with a duncan invader custom. so those are the ones i have in mind, but im still looking for something to do in the bridge if i go with the sd. anyways i prefer it to be either a SD or EMG just beacuase i like those companys, so suggest away, and thanks

I'm impressed with that 60/85 combo myself, even though I tend to avoid Active PU's completely. Great cleans on the 60, heavy distortion on the 81.
I've heard SD Blackouts are better, but never played 'em.

I heard that invaders sucks. Correct me if im wrong. But 81/60 would be a great combo.

i auctlly heard it coil tapped, sounded pretty goog imho.

so alot of you like the 81,85 idea. which would be better
81 or 81 tw
and
85 or 85A

im thinking 81 tw at the moment, but im not sure about the 60

invaders are not that good. theyre mediocre at best.
81/60 combo is a good choice, especially formetal.
okay blackouts and emg's are completely different.
blackouts are really middy. use those if you want some punchiness and to cut through
emg's all sound the same in every guitar pretty much. high gain. people say sterile, but with a good amp and effects, you can fix it or you can have it run at 18volts instead of 9.

No, don't get actives.
Try some middle output alnico humbuckers, and a tubescreamer before everything in your signal path.
...
Please do not insinuate anything sexual from that.

I personally would avoid the Rockfields, they're the stock pickups on my guitar (B.C Rich SOB) and they sound too trebly for stuff like Killswitch or Slipknot.
DiMarzio's or even EMG's seem the way to go.

The 81tw is a great choice for a bridge humbucker since it's also a lower output single coil in the same housing when tapped.

I'd recommend a EMG 89 in the neck for the same reason.
Humbucker or lower output single coil at the flick of the switch.

If you wanna go passive, then look at the Duncan P-Rails.
It can do humbucker, single coil, and p-90 sounds in one housing with a triple mini-switch.

Tonal choices are always good to have everyone.

Also, the Invader is the worst pickup I own, no highs at all and way too muddy.
