To all you pedal builders out there, what is a good first pedal to start with?

maybe a tube screamer type pedal?

Where would you order parts in canada and get schematics?

I have absolutely zero experience and would like to try building a pedal, any tips?

Try Googling General Guitar Gadgets or Build Your Own Clone. Fuzz pedals are supposed to be the easiest.

runoffgroove.com for some easy schematics.

Generalguitargadgets.com for some kits, with predrilled enclosures, printed circuit boards, and easy to follow schematics, and picture's of where everything goes.

But before you spend money, i would definately recommend practicing with a soldering iron, and learn how to make good solid joints quickly and effectively

If you don't want to buy a kit, a good way to get your feet wet is with something like a linear power booster; It happens to be the easiest pedal I know of.
