Im having trouble with the wiring of the Dimazio air zone in the neck pos of my RG1820x, i have replaced the v8 with an evolution pickup no problem, but i when i wired the air zone in the neck it sounds a bit lack luster, sounds as if it might be coil tapped, sounding similar to the piezo pickups that air in the bridge already,
i changed the green wiring from the original v7 configuration from the selector switch to ground, and still has a lack of power out, and sounds pretty bad, the air zone is a bit of an odd choice for a neck pickup but it still should sound pretty good though.
anyone have an idea how it should be wired?
havnt been able to find much searching goolge.

did you follow the dimarzio color scheme?

green to ground.
red to switch and
black and white together.

i think you might be on to something there,
i dont have the black and white wires joined,
i did that for the evo in the bridge though.
that might be the solution to my prblem.

yeah that's got to be done unless you're using them for different tonal options.

a little solder and wrap in black tape if you have it.

i just soldered the black and white together and to pos1 of the selector switch(ie neck)
its seems to be better but volume difference between evo & airzone is huge, i know evo is a higher output pup, but its quite considerable

ok this is a duncan pickup. i've wired dimarzios too but i dont seem to have a picture hAndy.

unless you planned on wiring up a push pull pot or some other switch, those two wires would be attached to each other and left to their own, like these red and white in this pic.

just did that there, sorry to do this again
but the volume difference is huge on the clean channel
anything that can be done about that?
it might be my wiring that is a bit off
red went to where the v7 did on the switch
black and white soldered together and isolated
green and bare wire are to ground

i had the back open there, and i can maniuplate the black and white wire, and when i pressed it to the switch pos1 where i wired it before the volume increased, not sure if it was my skins capacitance or jsut a dodgey solder from before when i soldered the black and white together

ok wont hurt to attach, see if it helps.

but yes, these solder joints need to be done well to get the most of the pickup.

yes it would be. how's that green wire connection?

you've got to make sure all the joints are connected properly.

and you taped the two connected wires? if they touch anything else exposed they will short the signal.

Just looked up the guitar, it has a 5 way switch so that might be compounding matters - the original switching options are from neck to bridge...

Neck humbucker - series
neck humbucker - parallel
both humbuckers - series
both humbuckers split, inner coils only
bridge humbucker only - series

That's pretty complex wiring to replicate and I think Ibanez use different colour codes to Dimarzio so if you wire like for like it won't be quite right.

If you just want to wire them in as simply as possible then you'd solder the black and white together and tape then off but they shouldn't be soldered to the selector switch.
Actually called Mark!
