Although I play all sorts I really love the big chunky sound of the mesa rectofier series. I havent got the money for one so was just wondering if there is an amp such as a bugera or what not that has a similar gain channel

They do call the B-52 "the poor mans Mesa"

The Bugera 6XXX series sound good for the price. I wouldn't say you can get a "Mesa" tone out of it though. Maybe a 5150, but not Mesa. If you want a Mesa tone you pretty much have to buy a Mesa amp. I can't think of a good, cheap, solution for a Mesa tone. That is one amp tone that really hasn't been sucessfully "cloned" for cheap yet.
#7
I think a B-52 AT will be better for a mesa tone than a Bugera would.

IMO My Randall is a good mix of Mesa and some of that british crunch from a Marshall. Mostly Mesa...it sound's IMO very Mesa-ish.

You cannot use the words "Mesa" and "Bugera" in the same post. Does not compute.

Why yes you can! I recorded a cd with a band where I use a Bugera and both the other guitarists used Mesas....my tone was WAY better....pissed off the Mesa dudes. It prompted an angry and shamed letter by one of them to the Bugera HQ.

The 333 series can get close, as well as the B-52 AT series

+1

Peavey Ultras and Triples Ultra channel have been compared to Mesa's for a long time now and considering the 333 is clone of that channel its gonna get ya pretty close.

Still I wouldn't want to take a clone of a clone TBH, I would go with the B52 AT-100. And most amateur or semi professional guitarists who own Mesas don't realise what a tweakable bastard it can be. You really have to work hard to get your tone from a Mesa, but when you do its set and forget

Actually I would take one in a heart beat... Mesa's (Rectos) are known to be notoriously bad bedroom amps. By getting say a Triple or 333 you get a similiar tone and the benefit of having an amp you dont have to crank to 8 to get a decent tone out of wihtout hours of tweaking

Also you can pick them up for 1/2 or even a 1/3rd of the cost in most case's.

an english pound goes to the first person to find a shop selling B-52 in the UK

bugeras are supposed to be chugtastic, but not so versatile perhaps

Didn't you already decide on an amp?

First you want a VC30, then an LV300, now this?

Make up your damn mind.

i could find one of those 'horror stories' for EVERY SINGLE amp manufacturer out there

I had two 6262's die on me. I'm guessing it was the tubes - I didn't do anything wrong tho, I'm sure of that. The third one has worked like a charm tho (yay for Thomann warranty).

well im still not decided what to get but i saw george clinton playing and his guitarist was using a mesa dual recto for not even chugging but like creamy thick lead distortion, and its bang on the tone i was looking for distortion wise. On the bugeras (proberly 333xl beats the 6262 for me im assuming since im not a metal head?) i heard the distortion could be fizzy. Also what would the cleans be like ive searched youtube long and hard and the best i could find was metal rhythm clips very little lead, one guy specificially uploaded a video for me, but thats it. So its very hard to judge, and then ofcourse you have the reliability.

For clean type clips

go to www.myspace.com/writteninrednc

Listen to the songs Amnos Theos, Psalm 18, and Last Days Of Men.

The tapping delay part on Amnos is my Bugera 6260
On Psalm 18 the higher accenting riff is me
On Last Days the tremolo part behind the piano is me

When you push a speaker properly, there's NO fizz...Nothin' but pure growl and creamy leads.

333XL has the best clean channel I've ever heard...and in a High-Gain head!!!

(Most VOX, FENDER and JC120 folks would and should be highly envious)
#38
how loud would you have to push the 120w amp to get ridd of fizz? And will it do thick cream gary moore and eric johnson type tones? Think pariseinne walkways/still got the blues and cliffs of dover

they sound pretty darn good. Would it do this sort of sound? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTQMMiHpeN8

Also just listening to some of the heavier clips and would you be able to get more low end for a more recto type sound? Could you upload some clips?
