I just got a question for those living in the UK. I keep seeing people asking or talking about guitar exams grade..6, 7, 8 or whatever. Can you explain what that whole guitar exam stuff is all about? I've wondered about it for a while.

The grades in the UK go from 1 - 8. 1 being the lowest for a very basic knowlage of basic chord scale shapes and arpeggios, and 8 being a fretboard wizard .

You can go to a grade 9 too, but you have to apply for a teachers diploma off the registry of guitar tutors.

So basically is like taking guitar classes in a music school and then taking a preliminary exam of a certain level of experience?
I'm just not familiar with that system of studying, I live in the US.
