So, I thought it would be interesting to get everybody's views on this. Personally, I hate them, I don't think anyone should have to miss out on seeing a band they really like. I think it's an excuse for clubs to be irresponsible and not watch over the crowd, I mean all they have to do is X the hand or wrist band any minors. It just seems really unfair to me that me and other people I know have had to miss out on some great shows because stupid bars won't just wrist band. Personally I hate it, what's your view on the subject?

Yeah, and I mean bands are losing alot of money doing that too.

Suucks for everyone but the club.

Well it is the bands choice to play at the club, but sometimes the alternatives are limited. I know some bands refuse to play 21+.

Yeah, except in my case it was a 16+ show But they didn't card, so I could've gotten in because I'm almost 16, and look older. I can't believe that I missed G. Love & Special Sauce.

I think its pretty bad, why alienate your fans?

Some people say this gets rid of younger people who come and know two songs by the band and wear a fauxhawk and are music creetons(my spelling is crap).

At 18+ and 21+ shows these people still exist, only difference is they arent preteens or teenagers.

Its not about the Radio its about talent, the front man has a bigger vocal range than Micheal Jackson and he can sing from heavey metal to high pitched ...No.12 on the top 20 under rated guitarists of ALL TIME...etc

True, I hate when people say somebody under 21 can't be into the music. Most people I know who are really into music are under 21.

I've missed a bunch of good bands, plus Redman, whom is one of the few rappers I like because of this b/s.....I think the idea of wristbands for minors is really good actually

not that i agree, but Necrophagist,Dying Fetus,Carcass, are more of a "adult aimed" genre, due to the whole persona of the band.

I think all shows should be at least 18+ because it keeps all the scene gimps away.

it has to do with the kind of insurance the club has. If they serve alcohol, it costs a lot more for insurance if you also allow minors in.

Ok, then what about all the genuine people under 18 who want to see the band? Seriously, who cares if undesirable people are there, ignore them, you shouldn't make people who genuinely enjoy the music suffer.

personally i think these shows are so much better, but that would be because im old enough to get in

although when i was 16 i went to an 18+ gig without actually knowing, and it's not like they checked ID but i guess it depends on the venue
#23
yeah i hate missing good shows. i understand that its a liability issue. but that doesn't mean that i dont like the music just as much as everyone a few months older than me.
#24
18+ and 21+ rules aren't imposed by the venues. Venue managers are required to adhere to regulations set by the relevant licensing authority, who give the final say on the age restriction of the venue according to a number of criteria and contributing factors.

Grammar and spelling omitted as an exercise for the reader.

it costs more in insurance to allow minors into shows.
it costs more in staff wages to employ extra security to make sure said minors dont get to the bar (its required by law at least in the UK)
minors also dont buy alcohol, how a venue will get around 95% of its profits

so unless its a family or children oriented show, why would they bother unless they're just being rather nice?
#27
it's part of the business. Deal with it.

Personally I would always push for my band's shows to be all ages but it's up to the venue.
...because the last thing the world needs is another metal guitarist.

Me.

My band.

I like Fall Out Boy. I don't like you.
#28
I'm not necessarily blaming the venue, I just think bands should look at more options. You can usually play an all ages house show that would be much more fun anyway. Whatever, I just don't like it, it seems very unfair.

Doesn't bother me. Actually I hate kids at gigs generally. No complaints here.
#30
What about bands like A7X, Dragonforce, Atreyu etc.? 99% of their fan base is about 13. 18+ shows would kill their careers.
#31
it's annoying going to shows with 300+ 14 and 15 year old children, i went to a show the other day and it looked like half the people there still had baby fat they hadnt grown out of yet.

If they like the band and don't personally bother you then why is it annoying? Just because someone is older doesn't mean they like the music better.

they're obnoxious, a lot of their voices are high pitched, they're usually the ones who end up getting railed by older moshers (making me feel bad for them), and they take up space on the front row

If they are stupid enough to go into the pits then they deserve it seriously. I only mosh at small shows or HxC shows cause i know that some of these 24 year old beasts would completely thrash me. (im 16 btw)

so when you were young your voice was never high pitched? What does that have to do with anything, and if they can't handle the pit don't go in the pit, it's common sense.

Yeah, I don't think some people under 21 realize just how goddamn annoying they really are. Then again, the 21+ shows that serve alcohol are often quite annoying as well. Nothing worse than heavily intoxicated people being assholes and spilling their drinks on you while drunkenly trying to sing along to the songs.... DIRECTLY INTO YOUR LEFT EAR.

I guess they both have their pros and cons.
