So in 33 days, I'm going to be joing the United States National Guard. And it turns out that I'm going to be getting a very nice $20,000 check when I sign
So what else would I spend the cash on than a new guitar?
I'm looking to spend somewhere around 3000 US max, but if it's a good guitar for cheaper, thats always a bonus.

I play alot of heavy rock type stuff, Nu Metal/Hardcore to Punk, and some pop/punk from time to time. But I'd mostly be useing the guitar for A7X/Bullet For My Valentine type stuff since I'll still have my Epi LP for other genres.

I'm just looking for some suggestions here for stuff to look at when I go down to the music store, cause with this kind of cash, I'm probably guna be playin about every guitar in the store since I don't have to worry about how much it cost

So suggest away

You have 20,000 bucks, you can buy anything you want.

You could buy my entire rig, plus the old stuff I got rid of FFS.

I say, get a nice guitar made exactly to your specs. It should be a nice 3 grand for a good custom model.

Way to do your country proud man.

Thanks for the buzz-kill man

I'm 16, I've got plenty of time to be a responsible adult when I'm older.
But the way I see it, I can buy this stuff now, and if I need to, I can always sell it off later. I take good care of my guitar equipment so it should all hold it's value well.
And the majority of the 20grand is going to be invested anyway.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

I live about an hours drive from the Gibson Factory in Memphis....if I go there could I get a custom build? I'm not realy sure where to go for one.

Rather than that, go here www.ranguitars.com Unlike Carvins, you can get a Ran made to your exact specs; just look at their gallery. Of course if you don't want to spend as much, Carvin is the way to go.

You could. If you want to give them your entire check.

This is a limited edition Parker fly with a solid Koa body... It'll play ANY genre of music and be unbeatable in each.

If the shape puts you off, they do LP (ish) shapes.

How does one go about joining the national guard at 16? Also, when did the NG start handing out checks for $20,000 to new enlistments?
#24

haha your most likely going to end up in iraq... its 20,000 just for signing up, and they pay for your college after you serve, and you also get paid whilst being there, and you have a place to stay and free food.... sounds like a good deal to me too lol

Most people between the ages of 17 and 42 qualify to join the Guard, and you probably do too. However, we do have a few strict guidelines. Read on to find out whether you're in the running.

Physical Size and Fitness
You'll be tested for height, weight and physical condition. Click on the links below to see if you fit in.

Height / Weight
Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT)
Your Age
If this is your first time enlisting in a U.S. military division, you must be between the ages of 17 and 42 to qualify.

Education
You must meet one of these three academic conditions:

You already have your high school diploma or GED
You're currently in high school, and will remain there to obtain your diploma while serving part time in the Guard
You will earn your GED through our GED program
=====================================================

Hmm...Anyhoo, save it for your continuing education or your life after service. If you wanna take 2 or 3 grand and get a professional quality rig, knock yourself out. Just don't be an idiot and buy a $15,000 Gibson Les Paul Platinum Top with ivory pickups and strings made from unicorn hide. You might regret it.
GEAR:

Gretsch 5120 Anniversary Ed.
Ibanez Artcore AS73

i'd say buy a decent guitar +- $1500-2000 and a decent amp to go with and save the rest

it may seem tempting to spend it all right away but you'll regret it later if you waste it..

  • ESP Eclipse II Standard (BK Cold Sweat)
  • ESP Horizon NT-II Standard (SD '59/JB)
  • Marshall JVM 410 Combo
