Topic. I just really don't like the looks of them, especially on tops that are colored. If you want an example of this youtube Zakk Wylde, he has most of his taken off. I know it's stupid but how exactly would I go about removing it, or would I have to replace the switch? I mean it's not that big of a deal, but if I can take it off without too much work I'd like to.

EDIT: Oh yeah 1,000th post

take the nut off.
take off plastic thing on the switch.
push switch into body.
remove plastic thing.
pull switch back up.
put on nut.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Yes it is..

What does the one you have look like :S

I just used a wrench.

I see what you mean..

I don't own a les paul so I was just guessing it was a normal hexagonal nut.. I have NO clue how to get those types off.

Listen I don't want to mess with it right now (the parents think that taking off a cover plate is going to ruin a guitar, totally ludicrous), I'll mess with it later.

I've worked on all the guitars my parents bought me. I've even reshaped the neck on a guitar i barely had for a year, if you want to talk about voiding the warranty.

I just use needle nose pliers to take those off. Be sure not to scratch the finish.

That specialized tool is actually a pain to use. I'm not a big fan.

Edit: haven't used that one. I used an adjustable one I hated.
All my photobucket pics are dead so no links to my guitar build threads.

I've never done this myself but it seems like a crescent wrench would do a perfectly good job of getting that off for you.
