For a solid state it's fine, for a tube amp you could bring it down to 30 watts without a problem.

SS=fine, valve=too loud.

Solid state will be fine, but for a tube amp it may be too much. You really have to crank most quality tube heads to get a good sound out of them and if you can't crank it way up at rehearsal (don't know where you practice), then chances are you won't get a decent sound.

I played 25 watts unmiced in band practices, worked fine back then.
Purple string dampener scrunchy.
