second question, how is this book? is it hard to follow? give me your thoughts

1) Yes, it's pronounced f*cks
2) I found it reasonably clear, some of my friends had trouble with it but they weren't real solid on the basics at the time. A good grounding in theory helps a lot.
EDIT: As Erc said, make sure you do the exercises.

1. I have often heard it pronounced like fOOuchs. A "eueh" sound in the middle.
2. If you understand intervals and basic harmony you can understand it. It is ideal to practice all exercises that the "student" (who's name I've forgotten) performs.

yeah i've read some excerpts it seems like some of it may be over my head but i have a feeling i would look very intellectual reading this book in school... hahah

This book is going to require some pre-requisite knowledge of harmony before you can absorb it. If you don't know any harmony, pick up a basic harmony book that teaches chorale writing and work through it. Most music shops should carry them, they are often made as preparation books for conservatory exams.
