I don't really "practice." I play when I want, for fun. If I get good in the long run, great. If I don't, oh well. I am fine with my current level of playing because it allows me to compose songs like my favorite bands, but I guess I'll only get better with many more years of playing.

You can learn the theory behind what you're actually doing. Other than that, you simply can't improve without practice. That's it: theory and practice.

Ehhh... Performing in front of people is always good.

But on a more serious note, cake is always good.

Ok so what you do right is ya get ya guitar ya sit down and practise, then you stop when your finished and then you practise and then you do a piss and then you practise and then maybe a few pornos and practise a crazy porno riff and then you sleep and then wake up and say "**** school" and then you practise and then you realize you've wasted your whole life practising for nothing and then you get a gun and blow your ****ING BRAINS OUT!

Practice, do exams, have lessons, do exams, and practice.

You can't get good by sitting on your arse. Unless you're sitting on your arse doing an exam or practicing.

practice, watch videos of my favourite guitarists playing live (it also motivates me), teaching is a good way to learn cose it motivates me to read up on theory that i could teach to my students.

or just jamming with other people

I like to listen and especially to watch videos of other guitarists playing. It's a source of inspiration. If I see someone play something cool, I think "wow, I wanna do that, too!"
I also read guitar magazines. They're more helpful than the lessons I used to take. Maybe that's just for me, cos my guitar teacher was crap.

Also, a lot of pro's say that when you practice, try to make it musical. Practicing scales and techniques will improve your knowledge, but if you can't apply it in a musical sense, what's the point? The last thing anyone wants to be is a fret-wanker.

I practice technique by playing (or at least trying) difficult songs. I'd rather play something that sounds nice instead of some chromatic excercise. It's more rewarding in the end, too. I want to be at a point where technique is no longer a barrier. When a pro guitarist plays, they just play. Where to put their fingers and stuff is not a hinderance for them.

I was going easy on you, mate.

If you want 1 on 1, you can have 1 on 1. Have a look at my pictures first though mate, I'm a rippling mountain of brawn and fist, the likes of which you have never seen before.

I improve techniques like alternate picking, sweeping, skipping etc and make a solo out of it. It has to be quite hard to play, and it will then be practised.
