I'm just wondering whether I've picked up a bad habit or not - when I play chords (I'm playing rock and metal mostly), should I have my strumming hand free from the guitar? My current technique is to usually steady my hand with my pinky and/or fourth finger on the guitar and pivot my wrist. It's not always like that, but I've noticed I do it quite a lot. Is that a bad way to do it? Or should I free it up? Obviously for palm muting I don't need to, but for general powerchords and stuff should I be more mobile?

Thanks in advance!

Well, I tend to be a bit still when I play powerchords, but from the looks of me seeing people to do them, I tend to see people restricting their movements.

It really depends on what's more comforable for you.
