I'm looking for some songs that you could call mellow, but still have some power behind them.

Songs like The Beginning is the End is the Beginning - Smashing Pumpkins,
or Right Where It Belongs - Nine Inch Nails.

Help me out?

The Smashing Pumpkins - Eye

That's some bony hipster sex, which may be the best kind.

Neon - John Mayer

...idk, maybe it's what you're looking for. Maybe it's not.

Tyler - the Toadies

Brickwall Views - the Lawrence Arms

I recently heard a cover of High Tide or Low Tide by Ben Harper and Jack Johson that is just chilling. The chord progression is ridiculous.

My Friend, Little Wing, Angel, Castles Made of Sand - Jimi Hendrix

Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River

...modes and scales are still useless.

mellow as in acoustic, slow, dreary subject or easy listening? I would say a song like Gone Away by the Offspring, maybe Rocket Queen by GnR, depends on exactly what you want it for.

The Galaxy Song, as sung by Eric Idle.

And you'll learn something, too!
