hey pit, so i started messing around with "the Ostrich" tuning and in the middle of playing today, my g string snaps.
the strings were about 2 weeks old (d'addario exps), and it sat tuned like that for about, 20 minutes before i started playing, then i played for about 10 minutes til it broke. So my question is, and the reason i give you this info, is to see if this tuning is harmful to my guitar neck. keep in mind that some strings have very intense dropping or raising ( A drops real low, G and B go extremely high ).

Yes.

And that's a dumb idea anyway.

Your G-string snapped? Ouch, man. Did you bust a nut?

On topic, I have no idea. :c I would assume so, though.
I sued Delta Airlines, 'cause they sold me a ticket to New Jersey, I went there, and it SUCKED.

don't tune strings up.

just think about how stupid of an idea that is. they're already tight in standard, but more than 3 whole steps up? come on!

I can understand tuning up 1 step from standard... but that much?! You'll be going through strings all the time no matter what kind you buy.
I can honestly say I have really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like.

'every once in a while' is what you were meaning to say, yes? If so then you're an idiot. Tuning from a G to D will not cause your strings to break every once in a while. They will break a lot. You will get very minimum playing time out of them.

Like aaron said, capos are your friend. You can get a top notch quality capo for only 15.00 dollars. Invest in one pronto.

it's probably a dumb idea and possibly harmful to the guitar. i would however suggest making a custom string gauge for it. maybe thinner strings for higher tuned strings and thicker ones for lower tuned ones.

edit- i forgot about capos get one! now!

For the love of god, get a capo and stop hurting the Breedlove.

That's a dumb question, you know everyone in here would buy it too. I know I would!

With a capo, he'll still have to tune all the strings to the samenote. There'll still be ones that have to go really tight.
There is poetry in despair.

It will be more harmful to your reputation as someone who isn't an idiot than it will be to your guitar neck.

What someone else suggested, make a set out of:

2x low E string
1x D string
3x high E string

Put them on in that order from the low E to the high E.

Success!

EDIT:Alternatively, if you want to have 2 Ds per octave, do

2x low E
2x D
2x high E

And then tune the third string the same as the fourth.
This is also easier to do because you only have to buy 2 sets of strings.
