I used ernie balls non stop for like 8 years, but i think im converted to DR for metal now, the 10's are espeically good for down tuning, but id say the 9's would be better for standard tuning. Overall DR's feel a little tighter than the EB's, but still feel nice. Id say get a few packs of different string makes, and choose, look at ernie ball, DR, dunlop, rotosound etc

I don't what guitar your using, Heres some great Gauge's for Different Tunings that i use on my 25.5 scale guitars, if you use smaller scale guitars go one gauge lighter for every string. My suggestion is to get them all singles and find the ones you like, it may be a bit more pricey, but finding what you like and feel comfortable with is priceless...

6 strings...

EADGBE... 9,13,16,24,34,44
Drop D... 9,13,16,24,34,48
DGCFAD... 10,14,17,26,36,48
Drop C... 10,14,17,26,36,54
C#,F#,B,E,G#,C#... 11,15,18w,28,38,52
Drop B... 11,15,18w,28,38,58
Drop A... 12,16,20w,30,40,62

7 string...

BEADGBE... 9,13,16,24,34,44,58
AEADGBE... 9,13,16,24,34,44,62
ADGCFAD... 1014,17,26,36,46,62
GDGCFAD... 10,14,17,26,36,46,66
F#,C#,F#,B,E,G#,C#... 11,15,18w,28,38,48,68
F#,B,E,A,D,F#,B... 12,16,20w,30,40,50,68
