Hey guys. I was thinking about taking my Hamer Slammer and putting some red and white electrical tape on it for the hell of it.

Do you think this will work/ turn out well?

I got the inxpiration from Eddie's frankenstrat guitar.

I don't want it to look te same. And of course, it couldn't considering my Hamer is a double cut.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

I was thinking about putting a clear coat on there but I'm pretty sure it'll hold up fine as long as I put the tape down well.

So you want to put tape on your guitar, and you have to ask if it'll work? And you're considering clear coating over the tape? WTF??

Of course it'll work.

Don't shoot clear over tape. It won't work anyway. The clear won't even out the edges of the tape to the finish.

Dont do it, the tape will shrink and leave disgusting gunk!

The idea of the clear coat is to keep the tape on the guitar. There's a chance that it will come off after some time.. so the coat would help secure it.

The tape won't shrink and prolly won't leave adhesive residue behind, but if it does, you can get some stuff that'll take it right off and not damage the finish. Like WD-40. Or Naptha.

Why not just paint it? It's a hell of a lot more rewarding...

Person: Dude, awesome guitar! Did you paint that yourself?
You: No, it's just tape that I put on once when I was bored...
Person: Oh.

Ehhh, eddie just put tape on it and sprayed it, and took the tape of after i believe. Starting with black, then white, then red if i'm not mistaken. If you're going for that look i recommend doing that instead of putting tape on it =/

Or I could lie.

Person: Dude, Awesome guitar! Is that paint?
Me: Yeah man. It totally is paint. I did it myself.
Person: Awesome! You can feel it's dimensions!
Me: Yeah. You deffinately can. *cue menacing laughter*

I don't really want it to look like his guitar. That would be lame. I think my idea will look pretty awesome after it's done though. It's also original probably.

I put electrical tape on one of my guitars and it shrunk. But i did kinda stretch it a bit when i put it on, and it did leave disgusting gunk.

Electrical tape won't stay very well and it can leave some sticky stuff on your guitar. If it was someplace where it wouldn't get touched it might be alright, but places where you touch it will eventually start to peel. Go to a hardware store and see what other kinds of tape they have. I wouldn't put clear coat over the tape either that won't work.

Why wouldn't a clear coat work? It would work wonders.

A friend of mine had the same idea, bit it was for his bike. Covered the whole thing and spratyed with clear coat.

It felt weird, it looked shit and the tape got all ****ed up.

Have fun.

Electrical tape shrinks and leaves black adhesive all over.

Even if you paint over it, it will shrink most likely.

Perhaps. I wrapped some around the lower wing as an experimental peice.

If it shrinks and such, then I guess I won't do it.

It takes time. Give it a few months and see what happens. As long as your test area is small, you may be able to clean it off easily if it gets messy.

I like to use Goo-Gone to clean adhesive off. Nice orange smell, and it doesn't seem to have adverse effects on paint.

I just took some of the tape off the test area, and there's nothing left behind. What makes you think it would leave stuff behind in a couple months?

like i said whatever floats your boat.

But the adhesive stuff, especially on some types of tape, is more like a glue thats design to stay kinda moist and sticky, but overtime its going to dry out and basically glue to your guitar.

Don't do electrical tape, that black residue is nasty.

just an idea..... colored duct tape? itll stay on better..... idk if itll shrink. You'd easily be able to tell it's tape though.
