No, because they're the worst type of solid state amps that you can get.

EDIT: for the price that is

No. Why? POS. Badly made, bad tone, overpriced, notoriously unreliable.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

what would be the best amp around that price range then?

Just page through this forum and read every thread with MG in the title..

Budget?
Gigging or just bedroom?
What types of music do you play?
Would you buy used? What major city do you live near?
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Well for $470 you can definetly get a nice tube amp, but if you're looking for solid state then go for a roland cube

i have like $500, but i could just wait a little longer
it would be mostly for smaller gigs, nothing too big, but still some pretty big places
i play mostly modern rock stuff, some metal, some more softer clean stuff
i probably wouldnt buy it used, but i live in NJ so i guess new york

OK - well not buying used would be a shame. You live in one of the best places on the planet to get great gear cheap.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/msg/837786444.html That would work, $425 and it says Marshal on it. 30 watts would be more than enough for what you are doing. This JTM30 is an amp you would probably never part with.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/msg/834739431.html This Delta Blues would be very good as well. I used to have one, good for what you play.

All you guys need to stop being so cool and just let these threads float by with no responses. I mean, a simple search would tell the OP that he'd be better off buying a bird or some sort of reptile than a POS Marshall MG.

I have a MG100DFX on a 4 x 12 cabinet. I didn't like it at first, but once I tweaked with the settings to get the tone I wanted, it grew on me. Haven't had any problems with it. I don't know much about amps though.
I'm the type of nigga that's built to last
If you fuck with me, I'll put my foot in your ass
See, I don't give a fuck cause I keep bailin
Yo, what the fuck are they yellin?!
