Well I'm getting a much needed upgrade for my amp for xmas. Mesa Boogie rect-o-verb hopefully. My parents said that they'll try but they also have to get stuff for the rest of the family so they can't promise anything.

Basically I need a plan b amp. Something I can fall back on if the mesa boogie doesn't work out. It's all up in the air until it gets closer to the holiday season.

I went to a local guitar store about this and the guy there kept on trying to sell me on a Peavey Bandit 112. It sounded starter-ish. More like the amp I had now but it could get hella loud.

So now I turn to UG for help.

I play mostly metal,metalcore, the occasional hard rock (not worrying about that too much though)

Favorite bands include: Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, Children of Bodom, classics like Pantera and Metallica,

Now I'm gonna stay at a safe budget here and say my range is about 500 USD-700 USD

I know for that price I won't be able to get a spot on sound like one if any of those bands but I'm looking to get a sound as close as possible to that mix.

*Expects to be flooded with Valveking suggestions*

You can add a good OD for more gain.

Very nice.

No matter how many times I see this budget and style provided to ask for advice for a new amp I always see these same two amps suggested right next to the valve king lol.

valvekings are not bad amps, theres just a lot of other amps that do other things a lot better. The valveking is the tube amp that is good at tones, but is not great at anything. In the end it comes down to randall, b-52, bugera...

The Bugera equivalent is the 6262 I believe.
From what I've heard it sounds pretty good for what you pay for, but they don't have quite the immense distortion of the 5150, or the reliability for that matter - the cleans are said to be nicer however.

Used 5150 combos I've seen go for $400-$600, Bugeras you just posted (don't double post btw).
AFAIK the difference is that the 6260 sounds like a 5150, and the 333xl sounds like a XXX.

I know I'm gonna get guff for this but how does the 5150 sound in comparison to XXX?

(I'm aware of the amps. I've seen em but haven't played through them before)

6260 = 5150
6262 = 5150 + (aka better cleans)
333 = XXX
333xl - JSX

EDIT:
The 6505 has better overall Distortion
The XXX has More Versatile Distortion

In short:
5150 = Dark, shitloads of gain, sub-par cleans.
XXX = Bright, not as much gain, nice cleans.

Well. Trivium being my favorite band...and you being a fan...what would you recommend for the stuff I've listed. But one must is a Trivium-esque sound or as close to it as possible.

Yeah but that's grade-a quality. I'm looking for an upgrade, not a amp to be set with for a long time. In all honesty I'm definetely not good enough to justify a rectoverb. It's something I should look forward to. Not worthy lol

I'll just say, listen to "Like Light To The Flies".
In that song, they're using 5150's with Celestion v30's (different speakers to the ones in the stock combo)

Nice.

I was digging the 6262 anyway. Just got finished watching a few vids on youtube.

I want to go try one out though. Anybody know if GC carries Bugera?

Maybe take it easy on buying new gear? spending $700 of someone else's money on an amp when you've been playing for four months seems a little wanky?
No offence intended.

My parents basically agreed to buying me something to upgrade my rig with.

I realized getting a mesa boogie at this point and time would be

a)stupid

b)not as useful as it could be

c)Selfish

I just want an upgrade from this shit amp I have. Parents agreed to that price range so yeah.

And my parents are against used for some reason.
