what is the most effective way to play the following sweep picking patterns? (which finger to use for the note)

e|17-13---------------------13-17------|
b|--------15-------------15--------------|
g|------------14-----14------------------|
d|----------------15----------------------|
a|-----------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------|

e|17-14---------------------14-17-----|
b|--------14-------------14--------------|
g|------------14-----14------------------|
d|----------------16----------------------|
a|-----------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------|

For the second one:

1st finger = 14 (roll it over the strings)
3rd finger = 16
4th finger = 17

ok thanks. currently im using 3rd finger for both 16 and 17 is it bad? i dislike using my 4th finger. i tried using 4th finger few days ago but my 3rd finger will automatically follow my 4th finger to 17

I would do it..

   4  1   3   2   3   2  3   1  4
e|17-13---------------------13-17------|
b|--------15-------------15------------|
g|------------14-----14----------------|
d|----------------15-------------------|
a|-------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------|

   4  1   1   1   3  1   1   1  4
e|17-14---------------------14-17-----|
b|--------14-------------14-----------|
g|------------14-----14---------------|
d|----------------16------------------|
a|------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------|

You have to be pretty good at rolling for the second

hope this helped

thanks for replies on the 2nd one.. i can roll pretty well i think i need more help for the 1st one rather than the 2nd

For the first one:
13 = 1st finger
14 = 2nd finger
15 = 3rd finger
17 = 4th finger stretch

Basically, use the same finger patterns you would normally.

EDIT: Besides, the stretch won't be that hard since it's up at the 17th fret. Not much distance to cover.

Just eat the headstock.

That'll make you look mad.

I know when i sweep, i try to sweep patterns that don't have rolls so that they sound smoother. It's harder thought, but the end result is better.

You need to practise more then. You can't stick the the same old inversions, man.

The Gear I Use Most:
Gibson guitars, Les Paul, ES-335, SG and more.

i prefer rolls, u don't have to use so many fingers . having lots of problem with the 1st one, can't play it smoothly using 2 fingers for that 15,14,15,14.. part is frustrating.

You dont need to tell me to practice, ive been practicing sweeping almost every day for about 2 years and i've still got a long way to go. But i still know about 3 inversions for Major, minor and 7th chord patterns without rolls.

I wouldn't. If you follow that sweep pattern up to the A string you have to hit the 17th fret - unless you have elastic fingers its going to be hard to stretch from 3rd finger on 15 to 4th finger on the 17.

   4  1   2   1   2   1  2   1  4
e|17-13---------------------13-17------|
b|--------15-------------15------------|

d|----------------15-------------------|
a|-------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------|

In my experience, anyway. It seems stupidly inefficient to learn different fingerings depending on how many strings you use (in most cases), I don't think this is any different.

Of course, try yourself and see whats comfortable. I know there are a few guitarists who sweep like the former tab.
