So I've got my engl fireball with nothing to play it through. The Vader 212 was stolen. I would gladly get the same cab again but may be interested in a 412 this time. The Vader 412s are like over 400 watts or something and I think thats a little much for a 60 watt head. Any other reccomendations for a new cab? thanks

If you liked the vader, stick with it.

And yeah, the 4x12s are 480 watts, but you still should be fine with the engl.

+1, stick to what you like.

The cab wattage doesn't matter as long as it's above the wattage of the amp. The cab wattage is simply the load it can safely handle. The cab itself produces no wattage.

aw dude.. that sucks.

maybe you should get a 4x12. it'd be far tougher to steal than a 2x12

how did your 2x12 get stolen anyway? did it get lifted during a gig?

I want a criminal to try to steal a 4x10 and just give and leave without stealing anything.

The 400 watts only refers to how much it CAN handle. I could wire up a valve junior to it if I really wanted. Get another if you really like it. Maybe try slanted and flat cabs at GC to see which you like better.

Cab watt ratings let you know how the speakers are going to break-up. 400 watts gives you tons of head-room, so if you're using for example a 100 watt head, the speakers will not break-up and distort - the cabinet will give you a clean tone and your distortion is from anything but the speakers. However if you want more speaker distortion, then you need a low watt cab.

(Pete Townsend was known for overloading his cabs to get more speaker distortion.)

How would someone steal a 2x12, 60+ lb cabinet by themselves?

The weight alone makes it not worth it for me, IMO, unless it had casters.

But on a more serious note, OP, that's pretty horrible. The thought of someone stealing my gear is pretty unsettling.

Check out Mills Acoustics or Port City. They're the cab of cabinets.

Krank builds a great cab if you like a solid wood cabinet tone.

I saw a Mesa Rec 2x12 for $499 at a local store, anyone know how that would be with the fireball? How would it compare to the vader.

it would be a bit more mid-rangy. they have v30's in those cabs as opposed to vader who uses the emi legends. v30s are the go to speaker for metal, but all these new deathcore bands use vader and use the legends.

the vader 2x12 is going to sound pretty damn close to the 4x12 because they can both handle so much power that your amp is never going to overdrive the speakers. it would probably sound a little bit fuller and bigger in 4x12 version.
