Music biz is in the shitter. No denying that. Its also very hard to get famous outside of australia.

How can we fix this? Not just for Australians but for everyone. My suggestion:

A music downloading site thats free and you can download everything you want for FREE. You wouldn't make that much money from that, However here's were the money making starts.

ADVERTISING! everyone form Local bands to McDonald's can advertise every mother ****er can advertise and the music businessmen will make money, bands will be get more fans through free downloading and more people will come to their shows.

This idea has good and bad points.

Good:
-Music biz makes money
-bands gets a tiny cut from advertising and gets more fans
-local bands can sign up to a seperate site thats for unsigned artists. Music biz gets money from advertising, unsigned bands get fans.
-When you download a song you KNOW your getting the song you wanted, not a black, fetish porno (happend to me once)
-No viruses from downloading

Bad:
-If a label doesn't agree to sign up to this then people will be pissed that their favourite band isn't on there.
-CD's would be obsolete. People without Internet access wouldn't have access to music any more. (you could, however still give/sell CD's at your gigs. )

There should be more on the bad side but thats all i can think of.

Good idea? Bad idea? Any one have a better one?

The music industry will always suck and always has sucked, deal with it. The music industry doesn't give a shit about the music, just the money, fuck the music industry, DIY and small labels>music industry any day. Underground music has been and always will be better than popular music imo. Also, I want a physical copy of my music, I don't like just having downloaded music.
I'm the same as I was when I was six years old
And oh my god I feel so damn old
I don't really feel anything

is $20 for an album expensive? not really, except im a greedy **** who would never pay for anything you can get for free.

If you could download a new car off the internet for free, why would you ever go and buy it?

How about this.

1) Every makes better music
2) get signed
3) get more people to show up at gigs due to better music
4) .....
5) PROFIT??
If Rock is a life-style, then Metal's an addiction

record labels need to go away. we just don't need them anymore. if a band like buckcherry can turn a self-released record into a huge hit, so can everyone else. we now have the technology to expose our music worldwide without the help of a label.

this reminds me of that seminar in fear and loathing in las vegas

because some one had to work to design and build that car. if everyone took it for free, quality would drop, and eventually production would cease.

some people need to learn that you should pay for what you take, downloading music the way some people do is just wrong.

Until you provide funding it is just a theory. Where is this money coming from if there are no CDs? They make a lot of money for labels. If those are out, how do the labels make money, money for themselves and for the band and for the bands to record and tour? What label would agree to any of that anyway?

Bake sales. You must be stupid or something.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools

Write good music.
That might help.

If the car industry made crappy cars and it was going under, what would be a good first solution for that? Make cars that people want to buy as opposed to steal.

If the banking industry made crappy investments and was going under...
..it can just expect the Fed to bail them out. Bad example.

My point is that in order for there to be significant improvement in the music industry, there needs to be significant improvement in the music being made. The music industry is suffering because it has an insistence on sacrificing long-term success for short term illusions of it.
If you are reading this, then it would seem that you're either too busy with this sig with nothing in it to finish reading the thread or there are no posts left in the thread to read.

That's f-cking genius. And they don't have you and your friend running the music industry why?

the problem with this is because labels have no cash now, its impossible for most bands to be given a big deal and given time to develop. Thats why you get these scene bands because their labels force them to do the ****ing eyeliner and all that.
