^ SA are awesome, but even now i still can't believe Jani had to leave. Elias seemed pretty awesome when i saw them live tho.

Other than SA, Primal Fear, Tarot, and Demons & Wizards are all awesome bands. Or if you like your power metal with cheese, double cheese and extra cheese, there's Manowar, Power Quest or Hammerfall.
#6
Extra helpings of cheese are best served with Helloween and a side dish of Gamma Ray.

Im sorry, I just don't see how you could argue that hardcore isn't metal. That just seems arrogant to me.

Yes, its its own kind of metal, but its still metal.

Me and some bros are going to the Renaissance Fest, and the only way to get ready for that is LISTEN TO ONLY POWER METAL

Wouldn't folk music be more appropriate?

Sonata Arctica are extremely overrated and boring if you ask me, had to watch/hear them live twice this summer, they were playing in Tuska as well, but I didn't go there on Sunday

Blind Guardian all the way, though I have problems calling them power metal because they're far beyond that

also US power metal is awesome and way too overlooked

most power metal is sickeningly happy but Iced Earth and Blind Guardian are both incredible.

Lol, yes.
Pagan's Mind wrote extremely epic melodies. Extremely good riffs

^lolz opinionzors!
Sonata Arctica aren't very well known, but hardly any of the bands discussed here are
they are, however, quite well known within the metal community, and they aren't all that different from the hundreds of other power metal bands out there

Do you hear people on every streetcorner shouting, "LOLOLOLOL SONATA ARCTICA RULZ!!1!!!!" and that's just making you angsty?

Actually, yes

Sonata Arctica are one of the most well known bands in Finland to be honest, you won't find many music listeners in here who don't know them

I see way too many Sonata Arctica and Children Of Bodom t-shirts every day

Sonata Arctica is extremely UNDERrated and very interesting. Do you hear people on every streetcorner shouting, "LOLOLOLOL SONATA ARCTICA RULZ!!1!!!!" and that's just making you angsty? If so, I want to live there. Sonata Arctica isn't very well known at all. That doesn't make them 'underground' or anything, but I have never met another person that has known about them.

But I don't expect you to realize that, as it takes a person with a true knowledge of music and an open mind to like the music they make.

were you being serious right there? because if so you've proven that you're a complete idiot. anyone who pulls the, 'it's just too complex for you to grasp!' card to defend their favorite bands looks like an idiot on normal terms. And when the band in question rights standard power metal (i'm not saying good or bad as i've barely heard them, but it's most certainly not 20 minute prog songs or avante garde) then it just looks utterly retarded.

No, he made it clear that with my limited knowledge of music I simply can't comprehend the music of Sonata Arctica

Look, I didn't mean to offend you, and yes, I did look like an idiot making that post. Sorry.

But, you know, they're my favorite band. I got a little offended myself, if you get what I'm saying.

And with you making them seem like the power metal equivalent of Fall out Boy, that didn't help.

Blind Guardian is pretty much the only power metal I listen to, but it's ok as they make everything else irrelevant.

I'm kidding.

Yep. Fairly good, but I dunno. I only have "special connections" with certain bands of this genre.

i see
i actually like them a bit more than Elvenking, mostly because i like the vocals better
Wyrd is still incredible though

as for power metal, besides BG of course, i've been really diggin Oracle Sun lately
they're not all that original, and not genre-defying in any way, but they make some seriously epic and catchy music

Dragonland have some absolutely amazing instrumentals. I'm not too fussed about most of their stuff, but when the singer goes for a tea break, they become brilliant.

Dude, this. THIS.

Dragonland is absolutely fantastic. I love their album covers as well.

I don't listen to much power metal except some Jag Panzer and old Helloween with Kai Hansen on vocals.
