I've spent the last few days working my way through the Blind Guardian discography. What a band. I could spend hours writing about how much I love them.

I need to see them live in a proper gig. I saw them at Bloodstock, but festivals aren't really the same.

I've got a soft spot for "Best Days of My Life" for some reason.

Also, hearing this song for the first time in forever when I popped the album on my record player was incredible.

I was strolling through college the other day listening to that song on my mp3 player. Felt like such a badass.

Who here listens to Rage? I've gotten into them a lot recently, and I'm looking for recommendations regarding which albums to get, since they have approximately a million. I've already picked up Welcome to the Other Side, but I want to grab another.

Blind Guardian, Symphony X, Firewind, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius are in this list my favorites.
Blind Guardian is really impressive especially in the last albums...
Isn't Dragonforce a powermetal band? Well, it's Speed Metal too. Same thing for Warmen..
Rhapsody is more than only Power Metal... but I don't really know their under-genre... (they describe themselves as Hollywood - neo-classical and Symphonic Metal; that makes a lot )

Lancer - solid new power metal from this year. euro-power metal back to its roots: melodic, catchy, using actual guitar riffs rather than just layering the symphonic cheese like most modern euro-power bands *cough* Rhapsody of Fire's new album *cough* . Reminiscent of early Helloween.

Anyone have any good recommendations for like more aggressive, or even death metal influenced power metal bands? I recently got into Crimson Shadows who have a decent balance of power and death metal influences. Can anyone throw out some good recommendations in that respect? I am a fan of the soaring/melodic choruses of power metal but kind of want something with a bit more of an aggressive death metal type feel.

Destroyer 666 has a blackened thrash feel with sing a long type songs, specifically the albums Unchain the Wolves and Phoenix Rising.

Skeletonwitch does the same but to a lesser extent, and has more of an overt power / traditional metal base. The album Beyond the Permafrost would be the go to

Try Ensiferum. Iron and Victory Songs are your best bets.
