Just saw Gamma Ray and Helloween two days ago! It was win!

Good to hear, I'm heading out to see them next week. Did Kai Hansen do some encore stuff with Helloween?
#124
the only power metal band I've seen live was Sonata, and it was AMAZING.
Not too many of them come out here, or I just haven't been looking in the right places. Whose touring in the states right now? I know Kamelot is, but I've only heard a few songs from them, not enough to call myself a fan (yet).

In Korea, they did I Want Out and Future World together...I would imagine it's the same for the current US tour.
Lost interest.

Are there any good power/folk metal bands in the vein of Manowar? No biased answers please.

i don't listen to Manowar, but for good folk/power check out Elvenking and Spellblast
#132
Kamelot, kamelot and more KAMELOT...

some hammerfall, blind guardian and Iced Earth included too.

Edit:
^^^Ensiferum is folk metal/melodic death...
#135
So guise, you converted me. Blind Guardian, sure, they're good, but one band really stood out to me.

Altaria. Give me MOAR of them.
#136
Altaria? That Finnish band? I remember them being a lesser version of Edguy

The song I am going by is Abyss of Twilight. I just absolutely love it.

I have some Edguy too though, I'll listen to that shortly.
#140
Get Edguy noa. I remember first discovering them 3years ago. First song I found was New Age Messiah. Skip up to 4:00 minutes, did not expect that chorus to pop up. VERY entertaining.

Oh, cool. What albums would you recommend?

Hellfire Club is one of my favourites.

Rocket Ride is very good too.

Tobias Sammett has an excellent sense of humour. I never fail to smile when I hear his ranting at the end of Catch Of The Century.
#143
Catch Of The Century is one of the most fun songs ever

I personally love Hellride Club and Rocket Ride, but they don't have much power metal in them, just great fun heavy metal

For their power metal albums I'd recommend Mandrake and Vain Glory Opera

and new Edguy album coming out in November

I think Ari Koivunen is overproduced and commercial B-grade power metal with no originality what-so-ever, Timo Tolkki said that he wrote the song Angels Are Calling in like 10 minutes because he couldn't bother to make a proper effort

Ensiferum is great. Get their self-titled and Victory Songs.

NOW.

Anyways, I've been trying to keep away from the fineries of metal lately, but I listened to Rhapsody's "Legendary Tales" and now I want to don a tunic and leap across a stage.

Dammit.

I can't stop watching this video.

It must be the coolest thing I have ever seen in my whole entire life ever.

And you're seeing correctly, that's Russell Allen of Symphony X and Arjen Lucassen of Ayreon.
