I thought that was one of the main points of a rick actually, whether or not it's up your alley, the tone is special, that is you can't really get it anywhere else.

Anyway, I'll add to the list of people saying they look hot, and from listen experience I say they fit into music I like tone-wise, but I've never actually played one and so can't comment on that end of things. In fact, I've never been in a shop that had one, or seen one anywhere other than with bands on stage.
#9
I'm not particularly bothered about them. I wouldn't own one myself, but plenty of bassists I like put them to good use.
#10
if a Rickenbacker could sound like a Jazz bass, it would rule the world!
the quality, craftmanship, and playability of Ric's are unrivaled, imo.
#11
Pretty weak output bass, rather large, a bit annoying if you are used to Fender Basses, and where verything is there. Complicated wiring on some models as well.
#13
I personally can't get enough of the sound, but I guess rics are like marmite, you love them or you hate them.
That having been said, the sheer quality of each instrument is very hard to fault.

I'm kinda in the middle. I love the tone, but I absolutely hate the lacquer finish on the neck.

That neck finish is why I chose not to get one.
#16
I like the looks, but wouldn't want to play one. They just look a little to fragile...
#17
the look is awesome and I only got to play one for a minute so I couldn't really judge what it was like but they are indeed beautiful and unique
#18
The only thing i dont like bout them is how the back of the neck has a real sticky finish on it, which makes it hard to slide up down.

I love Rickys and almost bought a 4003 FL. The issue is that for the cost, I can't justify the unique tone. But if someone gifted one to me, I would consider myself blessed.
#20
I love how they look, but the feel is way too sticky, so no.
I'll always go for playability over looks. I kind of like the tone too, but if I had one I'd want the neck refinished at least... which to most would be a travesty.

Sorry, but because you listen to Tool doesn't mean you're intelligent.

they sound nice the look nice and they have a nice neck
although as mentioned by others the finnish gives it a sluggish
feel when moving around also the if you like to use an anchor
for your thumb this bass doesnt provide a good one the pickups
are too low and close to the strings and if you use the oldschool
hand rest (which is just awkward if you rest your hand on it)as an
anchor you 'll find it difficult to reach the lower strings the so for
those reasons I wouldn't buy one but even still that doesnt
diminish the fat that it sunds relly good
