OK I've owned a Schecter Tempest Extreme for a few months, but yesterday I came home to find that my sister (after she'd found out I'd lost her band's video that they were submitting for a contest) had thrown it out the window so it's basically unrepairable.

So I was planning to buy another one, until I saw this.

My current amp is an Ibanez 10w starter pack amp, but I'm getting a Fender Pro Junior soon so I don't have much money for the guitar ($600NZ is the max I can save and loan from my parents in the short term) and I play mostly alternative and punk rock.
Please don't tell me to look used; finding good, cheap used gear here is nigh on impossible.

Does anyone have an opinion on this guitar? Since my other axe is an Ibanez GAX which is collecting dust after a failed pickup change, this will be my primary guitar for mostly bedroom practice, but also gigs. If you all think it's a turd, can you recommend any other guitars in a similar price range (check the rest of the site I linked to) please?

I like Jackson, but that would be a serious downgrade from the Schecter. Closer to the Schecter would be an X or Pro series Jackson. That is on par with your Ibanez.

I don't have the money for something on par with the Schecter. If I was to save, it would take me a couple of months since I don't have a job.

What went wrong on your Ibanez? I think you would be better off fixing that up than buying the Jackson, so you can save and replace the Schecter. Also try to salvage any hardware (pickups, bridge, tuners) if possible to cut your losses.

wow. make your sister give you some money.

She's 8. If I was to save, anyone know any other humbucker/single coil models of any brand that would be any good?

A pickup change gone horribly wrong. I thought about fixing it, but after that fiasco I decided that it's better not to and getting it fixed will cost almost as much as a new guitar.

What happened? It's VERY hard to kill a pot anymore, even harder the pickup. If you cooked the leads off, you can always add more to them.

That's what I did. But I never liked that guitar much anyway, as it was put together really badly (not just the hardware, the body too). I was keeping it only as a backup and maybe to teach the kid electric on in the future.

Hmm. If you burnt them off, you probably don't have the ability to solder on new ones either (no offense), but at this rate it would not hurt to try. If you just want a new guitar, the Jackson would be alright, if you wanted to keep the Ibanez to experiment on ( been there done that).

How is that a reasonable excuse? Throw something of hers out the window.

She doesn't own any valuable stuff and I don't wanna push my luck. The only reason I'm getting any money for a new guitar is because I didn't do anything other than yell at her; if I trash her stuff the parents won't give me anything and it's gonna be a year long wait, and I'm going to uni next year which means I'm gonna be even tighter for money.

No offense taken, I know my skills with any sort of tools are comparable to a porn star's knowledge of geopolitics.
But I'm still open to recommendations for my new guitar. Anyone got any suggestions?

I saw a Schecter 006 Deluxe in my local music shop today. It was marked at $699, but my mate works there and recently I set him up with his girlfriend, so he'll get me one at an employee discount, which will probably be within my grasp after a couple of weeks of saving and the sale of my Boss wah pedal. Reckon I should go for this? I already know that Schecters rock, but I was wondering if this one has coil taps. Does it? It's not a huge deal if it doesn't as I can just change the pickups like I was planning to do on the Tempest if I don't like them, but it would save me some money.
