So after concluding that the MAB string dampener is a complete rip off, I would like to try and make one myself, anyone got any tips? I was thinking about making one like this:

Though it could be hard to move over the nut (I've got a locking nut). Then again I could just try a tight sweatband
sweatbands work, sometimes I put a 1cm wide strip of felt under the strings next to the nut, it does the job very well but still allows open strings to ring clearly
ohai little sig.
guthrie govan uses a packet of rizzla to dampen the strings when playing slide I believe.
that might be worth looking into

Just use one of those sweatbands you put around your wrist. They work pretty good. They go over the headstock easily and if you need to dampen even more then just double them over.
