Hi,

I'm planning to buy a Blackheart amp by the end of this year. How vintage is their voicing? Could I get a fairly modern tone out of them by using a Blackstar HT-DUAL or are they strictly vintage sounding?

Thanks in advance.

Blackhearts= Rebranded Crate V series.

Get the V series while they are still out.

Very vintage voiced, by the way.

Well they're not a good choice for a modern tone at all. They are VERY vintage voiced.

I guess it's just hear-say. I usually don't like hearsay, but hey, I just threw it out there

I would like to see a schematic of both amps, though.

look at the price of v series amps @ musciansfriend and see how theyve dropped in price
I'm debating between the v5 and v18, probably going to go with the v18

Thanks for all the replies!

1) I don't really need an ultra modern tone, but as long as I can get a Bad Religion-like tone, I'm happy. How modern COULD it get with the HT-DUAL?
2) I live in South Africa, so I think I don't have access to the Crate V Series amplifiers (haven't seen them here yet) and their price wouldn't be lowered here anyway.

Well you could, but it's not the best choice. Think like this, if your main tones are vintage tones, get a Blackheart. Otherwise, look at other ones, I'd say.

Blackhearts "ain't" the same as the V's.
They are new. Designed by the same cat that did the Valve series for epiphone.
V's are being replaced by blackhearts.
Both V's and blackhearts are very vintage.
V18's don't have much headroom for distortion pedals.
V18's are very good with OD pedals.
Don't think nu-metal will work out of a Vox sounding amp.
Personally, I really dig vintage voiced amps. If I need a nu-metal sound, I feel that the digital modelers do a very good job at this. Not so for clean and vintage type distortions.

Agree?

^that looks pretty accurate 2_much_gear and welcome to UG!

I didn't know the Blackhearts are replacing the V's tho. Do you have a linky? Do you know why the Crate V's are so ridiculously priced low right now? Nevermind, I see your other post....to clear them out.

I don't know much about the 'alliance' only that they have the same parent company?

Also, see the bottom right hand corner of the Blackheart web site.
