Ok, so here is the situation.

My physics call is trying to make a "mouse trap car" don't ask me why, but we are so shut up. Anyway, I need help with something.

I have no problem building the actual car, that is easy.

But our overall goal for this is to make it deliver something to a 15 foot mark away from the starting point. Whether it just be dropping it off or the car just stops at 15 feet with the thing I have to deliver on it.

So my question is, how am I going to get it to stop at exactly 15 feet, or if the car keeps going, what can I do to drop the object I have deliver off the car?

All help is appreciated, thanks.

Just an idea, but attach some water rods to the front and maybe some counter-clockwise wheels.

If you use electronics, build two circuits. One astable and one monostable. You'll have to look up how to do it, but my electronics class did the same kind of thing last year.

15 feet of metal wire wrapped around a axle of the car, attach one end to the axle, and the other to a wall behind it.
Therefore as the car travels, once it reaches 15 feet the wire will unwind and at full tension so it stops.

Does it need to be built into the car or can have external things to help?

lol my oldest brother had to do that way back when he was going to school. Last time I ventured up to the attic I stumbled on his mouse trap car!

Sorry I can't help you though, I dunno how the hell he made that thing move.

I did that last year in grade 8, buile it with a string around the back axel and tie it around and tie it to the mouse trap so what you hit the mouse trap it spins the back wheel, but you gotta add traction and, tweak stuff

Mine went 6.4 metres last year (about19-20 feet)
