My sweeping is pretty bad, so I'm coming up with loads of arpeggios and sweeping them with a metronome. I'm sure this thread has been done before, next time use the search bar.

I want to know what u know u suck at
For Example: I suck at Chords, so i like to Play Land of Confusion by Disurbed so i can practice them
one of my motivators is that i want to be able to play Striken by Disturbed

im not very good at improv and knowing what position im at on the scale at any given time. So I pretty much practice that nonstop now. I'm bad at sweeping too, but it doesn't seem like a skill that I would use very much, so I don't practice it.

i'm not good at sweeps

i can do them but not very fast and it sounds kinda crappy

they're not really my style though so i don't care

I don't know my theory that well.
Sweeping i'm getting better at, i need to improve the speed on my fretting hand.

To me, sweeping isn't that useful anyway. And also, my fingerpicking needs some work. I seriously haven't touched the strings with my picking hand for 2 years...

My speed is seriously awful. Also my playing anything but pentatonics. But it doesn't matter because anything outside of that has no feeling

I hope your joking.

Playing at a faster pace cleanly.

Like, I can play the intro to "The Divine Suicide of K" by Protest the Hero, and I'm good at some faster, heavier riffs, but I suck pretty bad when it gets more technical. Like "All Bodies" by Between the Buried and Me just defeats me after about the first minute.

I think my three "goal songs" to learn, in terms of technicality, are "Sequoia Throne" by Protest the Hero, "All Bodies" and "Mordecai" by Between the Buried and Me and, maybe, "The Aftermath" by Origin.

My rhythm really really sucks if I try to sing over something complex or with an already weird rhythm (see "The Lotus Eater" by Opeth for example, particularly the "All these years caring for a liar..." part)

That's a dumb question, you know everyone in here would buy it too. I know I would!

Disturbed covered Land of Confusion, unfortunately

And yeah, work on actual cords, and constructing them yourself. Work on major chords first (1/3/5), then minor (1/b3/5), major and minor seventh (1/3/5/7, 1/b3/5/7), etc...

When i was younger, i had an instructer who told me improv is alot easier if u know the scales, i thought it was bull until last month!

I suck at alternate picking, I usualy downpick every thing. Sure, I can alternate pick when I play a bunch of notes pretty fast and they are on the same string but other then that, no can do.

I have tried and tried and tried, I still can't do pinch harmonics.

But, I started playing guitar a few months ago, it's not to bad.

Also, has much has I want to learn music thoery, I get confused because I learned it in middle school, but it was in french, using "Do, Ré, Mi, Fa, So, La, Si Do" insted of the A B C D E F G and A =/= Do, and all the terms are ****ed up in my head so I have no clue what is what.

Speed. I have short, fat fingers, which makes it hard to sweep.

I just practice 8th Commandment by Sonata Arctica, good for sweeps.

singing and playing, writting solos. i can write rhythm pretty well and halfass improve solos if im in the right state of mind(drunk usually, that way i just do it and not think about it), but i guess soloing in general.

6-string sweeps and fast/complicated rhythm sections. I flat out can't do 6-string sweeps, and it takes a bit longer to learn fast chord changes or fast rhythm sections.
Other than that, when improvising I tend to stay strictly with the scales, unless someone tells me to use different notes, then i'll over-emphasise these particular notes when playing improv.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to put it, along with your other advice, into a book, the pages of which I will then use to wipe my ass.

I'm terrible at legato, I can't do pinch harmonics, and I cant sweep, but the style of music I play never uses those styles anyway, so meh
