Hello there people,

I'm planning to buy a cheap reference monitor to use with Guitar Rig and GTR3. I don't do recordings, I'll directly play through them.

My budget is 150 - 200$ and the models I could find in my local store are these:

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Yamaha-HS50M-5-Powered-Studio-Monitor-Each?sku=601417

They both sound good to my ears but I'm no pro. The problem is Yamaha's price is for each monitor. Meaning: I can get only one.
I was wondering should I go with stereo cheaper M-Audio or Yamaha? What do you think? Will the speaker surface area affect the sound I get, like in guitar amps (think the difference between a 10'' and 12'' cabinet)?

Thanks very much

The M-Audios have a very clean sound. They're worth the 150, especially if they sounded good to you.

Don't buy one Yamaha.

EDIT: sheeeeit, i didn't even think straight. go to the recording forum. this belongs there, and theres alot of people who are more knowledgeable about this stuff there.

Don't judge me.

thanks very much,
can moderators move it to the recording forum or should I open a new thread?

^They can, but i don't know if they will. You can just open a new thread, but include a disclaimer if you'd like.
