I want strings that are really good for stuff like metallica. I hate when the distortion make all the notes blend and not stand out really well. What strings are good for getting a distinct note on each strum. does the gauge matter? i currently use tens. also, what pickups are bets for this situation

p.s. thinking further into my life what guitars are good for the same situation (up to 1000 dollar budget) I have a crate rfx 120.

go try some power slinkys, thats what they use.

and truthfully, its probably you not the strings. metallica uses a tone where it pretty much cuts all the mids out.

also, try and refine your technique so when youre picking across strings, you mute the strings when moving so the string doesnt vibrate anymore.
My Gear:
Gibson Faded Flying V
"Dante's Inferno" Iceman
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 112
etc.

I can't imagine anything worse than shagging to Mark Knopfler.

Maybe shagging Mark Knopfler, but that's about it.

wait, are you saying set bass to 10 and middle and treble to 0?
also, are you suggesting a larger gauge

power slinkys are .11's, so yes.

and not necessarily. yes, the mids are almost out, but not completely. and there is quite a bit of treble. play around with it a bit.

but what i was mainly trying to get at is that its probably your technique, not your gear.

I use regular light 10-46 and doing Metallica just fine. It's quite much about the amp when it comes to their tone.
