ok so i bought an marshal mg 100hdfx i know you all hate them but im poor and its a marshall head so im stoked. any way i dont hate the overdrive the head puts out, but its not the best so here is my question, can i run my distorion pedal thrugh the effect loop and use the clean channel for distorion, without burning it up?? thanks for any help

You don't need to put the distortion in the effects loop.

No, you won't burn anything up.
#3
Just run it infront of the amp, don't put distortion in the effects loop
#4
I think your head is already screwed up. You bought a damn MG half stack. Couldn't you have at least bought a combo or something and save some bucks?

Don't run the pedals in the effects loop. Run it up front.

ive had combo a kustom coupe and i hated the ****ing thing

Yeah well you would've hated it as a head too.

Why?

Because it's the same amp.

A Marshall MG100DFX combo is the exact same amp as the MG100HDFX head.

Thinking that stacks are automatically better is very naive.

i dont at all, its very simple . i wanted a stack not a combo, i would have bought a gnarly marshall jcm something but atlass i only had like 700 dollars to throw down, i would have saved for a while and used my kustom but it kept cutting out like crazy and i had a block party to play and actually the marshal sounded pretty good. i like the projection of a cab, compared to a combo.

He's got his answer. Let him have his gear. We don't need any more MG bashing threads.

TS - I will tell you this. If you keep coming back to this thread to defend yourself and your amp, you get flamed more, so let it die.

Not sure the issue with the Kustom coupe never had any problems from mine. You just gotta be a little more gentle with tube amps than SS stuff.

BIG maybe on those two but otherwise, solid options.

I will refrain from bashing the MGs - don't get me wrong, I think for what they are they do sound decent... but they are WAY overpriced and just don't cut it compared to some other SS amps out there.

But to answer the original question, it will actually sound worse if you run it through the effects loop. Effects loops are made for modulation effects, not for distortions/overdrives. Run it through the front of the amp (guitar>distortion>amp) and you will be fine.

The Kustom coupe series is an all tube amp.

Why do you think nobody reccomends them. Probably crappy
(honestly I have no expirience with one)
BUT! If you had looked into any of the amps I suggested, you may have had more luck with tube amps.

plus they have a nice arm rest "tuck n roll" on top.

Slats used to rec them. Where the heck is he? (I hope he's enjoying himself).
They are nice amps Hwy, and they have a badass armrest as JJ puts forth. But to think the TS opted for a MG over one is the most mind blowing thing I have heard in a long time.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.
