today in psychology we talked about how different areas of the country use different terms for the same thing, like in minnesota we have 'peppermint bon-bon' how many people who arent from minnesota know what that is?

also post words that you know only certain areas use.. soda-pop-coke (all can be the same exact things in different areas.)

I heard that here in northeast Ohio, we're the only people that say "would've" "could've" "should've" and all that. My engrish teacher told us, but she's stupid, so I don't know.

Aha, i find this funny...
okay, so in the states, it's called "Soda", but in Canada it's called "Pop"
Here's the funny part.. in the states, there's "Red Pop" and in Canada it's called "Cream Soda"... it's reversed... i find it funny..

more on topic, in Ontario we call a coffee with one cream and one sugar a "Regular" coffee... but in other provinces they call it a "Single-Single"... kinda weird...

also in NE ohio when we say milk it sounds "melk". also another one from around here is that we refer to distances in units of time, such as i know i live about 25 miles east of cleveland but if some one were to ask me how far mentor is from cleveland i would instantly reply, 25min. I know im not the only one who does this...

New England uses 'wicked' a lot. Like "dude, that's wicked awesome."

EDIT: Enough with the soda vs. pop. We get it. Different parts of the country call it different things.

Which is dumb because pop is short hand for soda pop.

TONIC FOR THE WIN!!!!

Just kidding, some of us know the difference between tonics and sodas.

Us New Englanders use the word wicked for emphasis. Whereas some would say "hella" and some just say "really," we're all about wicked because we're WICKED SMAHT!!!

In this context it pretty much does. "Good" short for "goodie" which is considered candy.

I've lived in Indiana, Georgia, and Southern California, and here are some things I've found:

Midwesterners say "pop" to mean "soda."

Southerners say "fixin" to mean "preparing," as in "I'm fixin to go to the store."

Also, a "mess" means a big but not huge amount of something ("go get a mess of potatoes for dinner")..."chunk" means "throw," etc.

In Indiana a "toboggan" is a type of sled, in the South it's a knit winter hat.

Southern Californians abbreviate everything; "delish" for "delicious," "sesh" for "session," "fro-yo" for "frozen yogurt." Also "hey-oh", with the "hey" being accented and pitched higher, is an expression of approval/excitement/congratulations -- "You got the job? Hey-oh."

I love regional dialects.
Can't stop the signal.
