Hey, I play mostly pop-punk (think Blink, Sum 41, old Green Day, MxPx) along with stuff like whatever you consider Weezer to fall under. Also play some heavier stuff (like the heavier tracks from Sum 41).

Anyway, I need a half-stack. Must have a tube head and the cab should be a 4x12. I've been looking at the Peavey Penta and the Egnater Tourmaster 4100 (I have not played the Egnater at all, only played the Peavey for maybe 10 minutes). I could really use some help though on narrowing down my choices.

If it helps, and I know it will, I play a Fender Strat with a Duncan Invader in the bridge and an Epiphone G-310 with a Gibson Dirty Fingers in the bridge. I use only the bridge pup on both guitars.

I'll need both a good distortion for pop-punk and clean and will need to be able to switch between the two via footswitch.

If I left any helpful info out just ask me about it. Thanks.

Edit: I'd be willing to spend up to $2,500 USD total.

First off you don't need a half stack - you merely want one. Now I'm not one of those people who will bash you and tell you not to get a half stack because it is your money to spend and it is what you want to spend it on - and hell, I have a full stack sitting right behind me - but you really don't need one.

First off, what is your budget? Unless you specify a maximum dollar amount that you are willing to spend then you will have people come on here and recommend amps that cost $2000+.

Also are you willing to go used or does it have to be new? If you say yes to used then where are you currently located on the globe?

Yeah sorry, realized i forgot the price limit a few seconds ago...I'm tired, cut me some slack. I'd probably be willing to spend up to $2,500 USD. I will consider used if I find a good one. I'm in the Atlanta, Georgia area.

And yeah, I do WANT a half-stack :P

I'm guessing your pricerange is between 1500-2000 usd since you're looking at a Tourmaster 1/2 stack.

In that case: Orange Rocker 30.

EDIT: In that case: Roccaforte HG30, Custom 40, or Rockie 30.

Thanks imgooley. Out of the one's you listed I think I like these the best. For what I play and given the fact that I will be playing at shows with my band, which would you (or anyone else) suggest?

Do you have a link to some recordings?

Also, I'm sure the sellers would let you try before you buy.

The Stilleto and the JCM 800 were what caught my eye, as well. You can probably get that JCM for a bit cheaper, as well.

That really comes down to whether you want something that is British voiced or something that is American voiced. They are all three great amps but the Mesas are gonna sound quite different from the Marshall.

Oh, and Gooley, you really are the reigning Craigs List king!

Well I told you the bands that fall into the genre I play.

www.myspace.com/sunsetsquaremusic

There's a recording on there. The amp used is a Marshall MG15DFX which is obviously not cutting it.

The Stilleto doesn't really sound like other Mesa's. It really sounds great for pop punk. Like, really great. It has that middy grit to it, and doesn't sound as boomy as, say, a dual rec. I can only speak to how it tracks from the demos I've heard (not just on Youtube.)

Speaking of Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPL7Pt5hVCo&feature=related

The JCM is a classic, though, and will do the job exceptionally well. IIRC, Sum 41 used a one (or a similar one) on Underclass Hero. But to me, the classic JCM sound is Tom Morello.

I'm not going to tell you where to go, though. They'll both do the job exceptionally well.

Wow, I really like the stilleto from what I heard on the youtube video. What cab would you suggest to go along with that? Again, I'd prefer a 4x12, and would be prefectly fine going with used.

Before you go and buy a 4X12, make sure you are willing and able to haul something that big around if you're going to be gigging.

People always tell me I solo like Zakk Wylde. Thats how I know that I suck.

I'm not Cab smart, honestly. I personally think the Stilleto would match well with a Recto cab, but I'm not sure.

EDIT: It would probably match well with a Marshall 1960A cab.

I realize a 4x12 is big. The other guitarist has access to a yukon denali so we're good on transportation

haha, nah. I live at home and go to Gainesville state. Went to MTSU (in TN) for a semester and hated the big school atmosphere, so I opted for a small school. I do have good friend of mine at Ga. Tech though.

I like the Orange combos and I know they're nice, but I'm pretty damned determined on a halfstack. Anyone else have cab suggestions for the Stilleto (assuming I got one)? Thanks to everyone for your input

I just got to say, I just added a Stilleto to my GAS list
#22
Thanks again guys. My local shop has some Orange amps so I'll try them out. I'd still like some suggestions on a cab that would pair up well with the Stilleto. I know a couple suggestions were presented, but I'd like to hear more. Thanks again.

Well the only dealer around where I live that sells Orange amps only sells the little practice amps. No one on craigslist in my area is selling an Orange product. I did listen to some clips of the Orange amps and I'm liking what I hear. From what I've been able to gather though, they're rather pricey. Thanks again.

I don't think you can go wrong with the JCM, the Orange, or the Stiletto.

Oh, also, it's worth saying I prefer the Splawn QuickRod to the Orange Rockerverb 50, Stiletto Ace, and JCM800.

Truf.

That Stiletto for 1000 is a deal, though.

EDIT: It's a deuce, too.

Stilettos are equipped with EL34s if I'm not mistaken. Makes em sound a helluva lot different from other mesas. (The Combos) Don't have enough gain on tap for me personally, but they might rock for you! I'd also recommend perhaps an old Peavey VTM, JCM800 style amps that go for extremely cheap but are highly modable...

JCM800, Rocker 30, Stillettos are all very good choices.
