Yo
When my amp is set to any distortion pre-set
My B string sounds crappy and makes me upset
It has the tone of an elephant
Me rhyming is not relevent
But when i switch to the neck pickup on my Gibson explorer
I strum my B string on any fret and discover the horror
That it sounds like crap :|
This all is true but im bored so decided to post this as a rap.
I keep tuning my guitar to make sure
yet I cant seem to make my B string ring pure

(Anyone have any advice?
Cause some sure would be nice)

I'll give you an A for effort.

How long have you had your strings for?

Could you get us soundclips?

My G string does the same!. Just like an elephant, what a shame...

Thats it! Someone told me it was the intonation, but I haven't had a chance to have it properly set up, for your information...

Maybe this will do it for you too. I changed to brand new strings and it still sounds like poo.

So, if you fix it, let me know... I hate to hear my guitar/elephant blow!

Ok, so I lowered my action just to the point where the 3 low strings slightly buzz, then backed out 1/8th of a turn. My G string doesn't sound so "elephanty". It almost all went away. No more gurgle-y sound. I think it might have to do with the angle of the string height at the bridge to the neck. Not exactly sure. I'm sure a tech will pinpoint the problem, as it may not be completely resolved.

Change the action, up or down and see if it helps.

if the strings are old it'll sound dull.

if the string is too low, or there's a high fret, you rug a fret and get buzz.

if the string is out of tune at the 12th fret then you can set the intonation.

depends on what you mean by the fact that it sounds like crap.

When I hit any note on my g string (new, btw) above the 10th fret, it doesn't sound smooth and uniform. It sounds like it has its own built in vibrato. Like a very fast oscillating wave behind the tone AND part of the tone.

I've had old strings do that, and this sounds exactly the same but with new strings. I moved the saddle forward and back slightly so as to keep it intonated, but that didn't help. What helped was lowering the whole bridge (Floyd licensed), but its still there - slightly.
