My friend Ashley has been acting really weird lately.

She keeps telling me that she cant focus on anything.
She says she cant focus because of everything that has been going on in her life. (boyfriend breaking up, the inability to have one moment of peace, lack of sleep, etc)

I keep telling her to take a "mental health day". Go home, turn off your phone and just think.
She says she doesn't have the time.

She even told me about this really messed up dream she recently had.

It starts out with her in one of her friends basements. She goes into the back room which happens to be an office and finds a gun. Then two people rush in shooting at her. She shoots one in the head, and the other shoots her in the head. The weird thing is that she doesn't die. She just stands there in agony. So the guy shoots again, and again just pain. She runs, while continually getting shot at. She finally is fed up with the intense pain and shoots herself. She falls to the ground, but again just pain. She says it is some of the most intense pain she has felt, even though it was in a dream. So she is lying there on the ground, blood pouring out of her head, just wanting the pain to end... She then wakes up from the dream.

She said she only had it once, a few nights ago and has been too afraid to fall asleep since.
For those of you good at reading dreams, could you tell me what it means?

Im seriously worried about her, any advice?
?!

Sorry to hear that dude, but you should seriously tell her to go see a doctor though, cause that sounds pretty bad.

In order to live in a civilized society, we tend to hold back or urges and repress our urges and impulses. However, these urges and impulses must be released in some way and have a way of coming to the surface in disguised forms.

One way these urges and impulses are released is through our dreams. Freud understood the symbolic nature of dreams and believed they were a direct connection to our unconscious, what Freud refers to as the id. The id is centered around pleasure, desire, unchecked urges and wish fulfillment. During our waking hours, the desires of the id are suppressed by the superego, which acts as a censor for the id. The superego enforces the moral codes for the ego and blocks unacceptable impulses of the id. Because your guard is down during the dream state, your unconscious has the opportunity to act out and express the hidden desires of the id.

She isn't suicidal or anything of that nature is she?

EDIT: That first bit was copied from an artical about Freud. I'd give you the link but I've already lost it.

DON'T MAKE ME DESTROY YOU!

Oh, and, the dream is probably NOT literal in it's meaning. Case in point: the dream in which teeth are falling out of your mouth for no reason and you can't seem to put them back in is usually associated with stress over money problems.

Shes sort of emo, but i never really thought of her as the kind of person to kill themselves...

She was always really outgoing, somewhat optomistic, and always in for a good laugh...
Now im really really worried...

I had a dream once, I was in my own coffin, people were looking at me crying as if I was dead, but I was alive, I just coulnt move or speak.

It was hell, i woke up as soon as my best friend shut the cover of the coffin.

don't tell her to go to a psychologist. my brother went to one, all they did was pump him full of narcotics so he became a mental vegetable.

try and figure out the sources of this stress? family problems? new school? new job? afraid of the future?

maybe the lack of sleep is getting to her. i know over my summer i was going through some tough shit (horrible breakup) and i couldent sleep so after a few weeks and many dreams later I decided I hated sleep and chose to stay up that night to get some peace. at some point i went into my bed and fell asleep instantly and so I had this really horrible dream, i cant even describe it... it was terrible. and so snapped awake scared as shit heart racing in a cold sweat.

the point of the story... you said shes had lack of sleep and that could possibly be effecting her dreams meaning instead of her dreams being about how she wants her bf back and all that its hitting her dreams in a worse way than usual. Other than having a psychological effect on her its getting to her physically. The dream was probably all the stress and pain hitting her through a dream. Maybe? Or it could be she cant get rid of the pain no matter what she does? thats happened to me alot recently. She should probably talk to someone about this so this doesent build up inside her and cause her more pain.

Okay im done... I hope i helped in some small way.

If she doesn't have enough free time to take even one single day of solitude then I think the problem is obvious.

perhaps mate; this is a long shot at interpretation btw.
although she may be able to get rid and solve the problem of one problem in her life (the one guy she shot dead), there will be many more problems in life in which will always be attacking / "shooting" themselves at her, even though they do plague her, using the "i cant deal with this anymore" (shooting herself in the head) wont deal with it, but will make the pain of the problems worse. i would say she just needs help from friends mate, especially you.

but like everyones saying here, i recommend a specialist. afterall im only a guitarist i know jackall really. hope she improves soon.

edit: the guy a couple of comments above me his interpretation would make more sense

She did talk to someone, me.

I was going to try to find out why she had the dream in the first place, I know it is probably stress, but the source of it is what I need to find out.

I would say it means something along the lines of how she wants to get away from any pain in her life, and it seems (I emphasize that) that she can't get away from it.

Comfort her and don't pull any stupid guy shit (sexual, not to say you would). If it gets worse, ask her about if she should talk to her parents maybe? ayedeekay..

ask her out.
this could either improve the situation as she is likely pissed over breaking up with her boyfriend or really fvck things up worse

i meant a docter but better she talks to you then a docter. pouring your heart out to a person youve met all of once is awkward.

Yeah, as i said it could be lack of sleep, break up shes going through, not getting a moment of peace.

Probably fvck it up worse for both of us.
She is still obsessed with her boyfriend, and I'm already planning on asking someone else out. On top of that, we are in no way relationship compatible. That would just be a powder keg waiting to happen.

Yeah, but she has already gone through the break up.
It passed a couple of months ago. It was actually pretty quick and painless.
