they'll be clean as anythin, but just very bright and twangy. just flip to the neck pickup or turn down the tone knob and they'll sound fine.

they are pretty good clean. the 81 will push the amp a little more, but it will stay clean nonetheless, if properly eqed.

i hate the clean sound of my 81.... way too twangy, but maybe you'll be into that. I prefer a warm rounded clean sound personally. Im sure with careful tweaking of the volume/tone knobs, and gain and EQ on your amp you could achieve this. Still, they're no match to a nice seymour duncan passive or something similar...
