I'm looking for some different songs to play on my 7 string. I know Trivium, Unearth, and John Petrucci stuff. Any other suggestions?

Anything by Nevermore.
The DNA results show that Jeremy Kyle is a nob.

And try out some Meshuggah I think you should be able to find some cool stuff.
#6
Dark Eternal Night, A Change of Seasons, The Glass Prison by Dream Theater are all good ones to learn.

He is, but he never featured on any of the Nevermore albums

You can try Trivium's - The Crusade, its only the clean party that needs the B string.
other than that some dream theater, In the name of god, honor thy father are pretty fun but take in note there 2 steps down so its in C or something.

EDIT: MESHUGGAH!! almost forgot.

'A Darkened Mind' from Circus Maximus. Most of the songs on the Isolate album are on a 7-string, I think. They're pretty fun to play, too.

Try Engines of Hate,Born and Inside Four Walls by Nevermore and Dark Eternal Night by Dream Theater.

I can't think of very many 7-string songs, and most were mentioned already. The only thing I can recommend is just to play non-7-string songs and beef 'em up with that extra B, lower don't always mean heavier.
#23
Try some songs by strapping young lad, lots of 7 string, and, sadness will sear by trivium seems appropriate
No Money, No Honey.

Nevermore my friend, not only great songs to play written by loomis but they're hella fun and you can learn a lot from them (i.e. sweep picking), w/o nevermore (and arch enemy) I woulda never learned to solo

Rusty Cooley if you're brave enough too.

All Shall Perish does 7 strings as well.

Yeah Trivium use 7 strings on a few songs off the Crusade and throughout the new album Shogun.

At The Gates tunes to B-Standard.
So I think a Seven String should work quite well for that.
I saw a guy on Youtube do it to.

Yeah, through a fair bit on The Crusade, and some more on Shogun; there's a brilliant riff played on the low B in Kirisute Gomen, actually.

You could rework songs you already know in order to include the low B. 7 string guitars and 5 string basses isn't about the extra notes- it's really about economy of motion- more notes for less hand movement.

This.
I write and play 7 string material, but usually when I'm playing I just find easier (or more fun) ways to play songs that were written on downtuned 6 string guitars.

Death metal, like CC, usually in drop A on a 6, is easier on a 7, IMO

Thing is, I really disagree with buying an extended range instrument with the entire "well, with the low B, you never need to go into drop D" and similar sentiments. It's just not true. Example- try playing Walk with me in Hell in a standard tuned 7 string guitar or 5 string bass. Not easy at all, when it's just a simple job to knock that E down a step. Obviously there are exceptions. I know I said economy of motion is the shining aspect of extended range, but when it comes to drop or down tuning, that kind of blurs a bit.

Doesn't matter either way. Their older material is still only half a step higher than G, which is the standard tuning for an 8 string. I don't even bother downtuning, I just play the songs.
