Hello pit.
I don't need a new computer but I need to find one for my college computer lab class.
I need to find a new computer that would be good for a major company. I need the hardwear, softwear, input/output decives, montor, and internet connection. I could use as much money as possible.
So pit suggest me a computer and help me get an A!
The good times are killing me.

Laptop or desktop? And budget? Read this and ask additional questions.

Btw, Macs are ok, but you can get a lot with less with a PC as long as you are willing to take some care of it.

If it needs to be that specific why don't you contact a local computer company and ask them to custom build it?

As much money as possible?

Get 4 HIGH END graphics cards (Nvidia or ATI), run them SLi on a 4way SLi motherboard.

Get some sort of ridiculous Quadcore clocked at 4ghz as default... 4gb DD3 ram.

I'm also in this jam...

I'm getting the iMac though.. For at home desktop.
And MacBook Air for laptop.

Going a whole new way this time.
McLovin is my hero!

It's not the going that the pit cares about.
It's the coming.

Every computer thread turns into a debate between the PC fan boys and Mac fan boys.

Suggest ME a laptop.

1000.00 - 2000.00 price range.

Aside from using the X2 cards (9800GX2/4870X2 being the latest) I don't think you can run four way sli/crossfire.

You could run tri sli 280gtx, that is the fastest setup currently.

Also get 8gb DDR3, a solid state drive or a raptor drive + a few tb drives.

For a desktop, the new Mac Pro is pretty powerful. For a laptop, I heard many good things about the HP line of laptops. As for me, I'm using the new Penryn Macbook Pro and I love it to death.

Don't buy a new mac or pc, get on ebay, find a decent older laptop with all the bells and whistles for less than 500 U.S. Throw the latest FREE Ubuntu/Firefox in it and move out smartly...A lot of companies are going with Linux based systems due to their inherent dependability and security.

Ah, cheers for clearing that up. Sounds awesome.

Just as a software note, if you're wanting to run windows, you'd have to go with Windows Vista 64bit. Windows XP 64 bit seems to be pretty shitty and basically unsupported by most software. You could go down the Server 2003 route but again that's not ideal.

Load it up with Ubuntu though and you're flying!

Hardware wise, build build build!
