i feel like im cheating whenever i use effects while playing. It can even be like delay or wah and ill be quickly turning it off and making sure i can play it well without it.

do any of you guys feel that?

There's been sooo many threads done on this; I don't even wanna hear that you used the searchbar. Staring at it and giggling does not count.
The worlds fu cked up and we lit the fuse, its all used up what you gonna do?

No.

Just like it takes practice to make your guitar sound good clean or with od/distortion, it takes practice to sound good while using effects as well.

Nope. I play it without the effects first until I really have it down, but effects definitely don't feel like cheating to me.

it can mask mistakes and sloppy technique.

i've seen players who could sound decent with a ton of gain/distortion,
but couldn't play anything worth listening to without it.

I'm kidding, of course.

There's no such thing as cheating in music. What's important is your personal gratification, and the end result.

The same is true of relationships.

On a base level? Not even close. But I can do what I can do without drowning my sound in effects or playing at a beat-per-minute and post-producing the crap out of it.

But, I'm an honest guy, and he can still do things I can only dream of.

Theres no such thing as cheating in music.. If guys pressing buttons can be considered music then anything can..

It makes me feel more expressive, frankly, to use pedals. I don't really use anything fancy, though. I've got a wah-wah, a distortion/sustain pedal, and sometimes I like to add delay, and normally play with a little bit of reverb.

Thats about it.

Sometimes the right combination of pedals makes me feel like I can communicate better through the spirit of my guitar than through my mouth.

Does your right hand know about this?

But seriously... I think what TS is trying to say is that he feels he's "cheating" because he's afraid that whatever effects he's using are drowning out his mistakes/slopiness when playing guitar. Makes sense to think of it that way, but if it sounds good in the end then what's the problem?

I've not felt that - I don't think any effect you use makes it sound like your playing better - it just makes it sound different,

Your still playing it the same way just getting a different sound
