i've got an opportunity to buy a (more or less) brand new trumpet, at a pretty good price

and my brother takes lessons, so he could teach me some stuff

should i get it?

i was hoping for a new ipod, and this would severely undercut that fund

Obviously a trumpet. And you can get one of those 20 bucks brandless Chinese disk on key mp3 players.

I suggest that if you do choose the trumpet, you join concert band, marching band, and jazz band immediately at your school, if you are still in the schooling age.
You will then fall in love with the thing.
But I do think that if you just learn Jingle Bells with your brother, you're going to regret getting it.
As a Horn player that was presented the same question, I chose the horn and I'm glad I did

I wouldn't bother learning an instrument unless I had the passion to play it and the music associated with it.

well if your brother plays, you could probably try out his instrument and see if you like it. you could just buy a mouthpiece for yourself and share the one trumpet.

My mind is going. I can feel it.

In grade 7 I learned the trumpet in school and it sucked. I couldn't play it right, it was boring and I gave up. One of the best choices of my life.

Trumpet, if you already have an ipod, but dont have a trumpet, I dont see why this is a hard decision

I think the term is "brassholes".

If your starting trumpet, get something like an old Yamaha or Bundy that needs a little work on craigslist. Take it to a couple music stores, get repair estimates, choose the cheapest repair shop. But whatever you do DON NOT BUY A NO-NAME TRUMPET OFF EBAY!

Things like iPods go out of date every few weeks it seems, I don't bother keeping up with them. Get the trumpet and do some mad Miles Davis shit.
