Lately i have got into improv. 1st it seems all i do is solo in the pentatonic and make up little, fast, bluesy stuff. its not that bad except i listen and play thrash riffs that dont go well with blues. so will i get past this or how do i get past this in other words?
Ummm.... Use minor and diminished scales?
Use major and minor scales. After you've mastered those, move onto modes. Phrygian mode is probably what you're looking for.
You get past it by not doing it. Learn some solos from some of your favorite artists and learn how they use the fretboard, and try not to limit yourself to pentatonics. I would also recommend getting powertab and punching in a chord progression and just wailing over it until your fingers bleed.
Is this a stage?
no, I'd say it's more like a theater
ok, lame jokes aside. I think most guitarists do go through this, it just takes a lot of work. one thing that would help a lot: read up on phrasing.
