I've arranged to start teaching a mate bass this afternoon - he hasnt played any bass before, so it'll just be the basics.

The half hour lesson I've planned is as follows:
Quick explanation of the different parts of the bass, etc
Introduction to different techniques involved (slap, finger, etc)
How to tune it to standard
Then I'll probably teach him smells like teen spirit by Nirvana

Is there anything else I should add to the lesson?
^^ actually a decent idea... and start a band with him, and he'll shape up as a guitarist much faster than a bassist with someone to jam with

But for bass teaching

First lesson. probably don't show him slap. or else he'll only go. ok but how do you slap.

get him excited on fingering then bring in the slaping and popping.

Tell him a bass is like a woman, first you finger it THEN you pop it!
"Whats that noise??"

"... Jazz"
