Im doing an ML with maple neck and hss pickguard config build.
with a JBbridge, STK-Smid, and STK-Sneck. five way switch

should i use 250k, 500k, or 1m pots. why? and what are the best brand?

blues rock to shred metal.
takayoshi ohmura currently has my favorite tone, then Paul Guilbert, then Syu from Galneryus.

I would go for 500k pots. The best alrounders
ESP Eclipse-II VTB (With 18v Mod)
Randall RG75
Tapco Mix60
New Zealand

What tone and volume controls do you have?

Ideally you should keep the humbucker at 500k, and the single coils at 250k, but if you have master tone and volume you could probably go with 500k single coils might be a bit bright though...

I want the electronics set up like an HSS Strat.
v,t,t. a five way switch that im adding, and the original pickup switch on the ML will be a cutoff switch.

Do the tones preside one over the humbucker and the other over the two single coils? Then use 500k for the hum one and 250k for the other, and 500k for the volume.

I think that should work?

which one of the tone pots should i have as the 500k. the top or bottom.
sorry i really have no idea about electronics. this is my first build

Uh, no. Since the two tones are for neck and middle (unless you're changing that), they should definitely be 250K. Volume is master so that is debatable.
Gear:
Schecter Hellraiser Deluxe
Boss DS-1
Crate GTD65

GAS List:
Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Roadster

I'm not sure how strat wiring works, but I assumed it would be a tone for the humbucker and a tone for the two singlecoils, it doesnt really make sence to have a tone per single coil and non for the humbucker? But oh well...

Fender has always wired the tone controls for Neck and Middle, regardless of SSS or Fat.
And lots of people change that wiring to assign the tone controls to neck and bridge
or middle and bridge.

Fender uses 250k pots for all 3 pots on their Fat Strat. They also wire for an automatic coil-split on the HB in the Bridge + Middle position.

personally, i'd go with 500k, but it's not all that big of a difference.
Alpha is a good brand. CTS is even better.
