A spokeswoman for screen legend Paul Newman says the actor has died at age 83.

Spokeswoman Marni Tomljanovic says Newman died Friday of cancer. No other details were immediately available.

Newman was nominated for Academy Awards 10 times, winning a regular Oscar in 1987 for "The Color of Money" and two honorary ones. He was equally at home in comedies such as "The Sting" and dramas such as "Hud."

I quite liked him, R.I.P

there was a lot to admire.

aside from the acting, he was married to the same woman (Joanne Woodard) for 50 years, until his death. a rarity in the world of actors. his newman's own food products had all the profits going to charity. that was no small chunk of change. and he was quite skilled as an auto racer.

much of the hollywood crowd rides the wave of celebrity. he shunned the fame and made a real life for himself and his family.

that's would be a nice way to put it.

ironically, from what i've read about him at times, he was completely against the usual concept of "heroes". don't idolize people, put them on pedestals, just live, do, be.

the most appropriate thing i can think of to describe him:
He was a good example of complete human being.

that might sound understated, but i think he'd want to be thought of that way.

He will be missed

and for the record, I wouldn't call The Sting a comedy >
They credited us with the birth of that sort of heavy metal thing. Well, if that's the case, there should be an immediate abortion.

Neuman/Redford was an excellent combo
Butch and Sundance was amazing.

He was awesome in The Hustler with Jackie Gleason too, if you're into old films.

Jesus Christ . . .

This has just ruined my day.
He was a respectable human being. There aren't very many people you can say that of.
I agree with you SomeoneYouKnew. I think he was indeed a great example of a complete human being.

He will be sorely missed.
R.I.P. Mr. Newman

RIP

i was never a HUGE fan of his, but some of his movies were pretty good. in fact, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one of my favorite movies.
#29
There are few celebrities I respect more than Paul Newman. As an actor, his talent was prodigious, his role of Lucas Jackson in Cool Hand Luke is one of my favorite performances in the history of cinema. As a humanitarian his acts of charity are almost unmatched and he did it without being a smug douche like some other celebrities (*cough*Bono*cough*).

R.I.P.

Shit man. He was an absolute legend. The Sting, Hudsucker Proxy and Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid are some of my fave all time movies.
#31
That sucks. He was a legend, although I can admit the only movie I ever watched with him in it was Cars with my sister.
